Re: Apache Attack Helicopter (British Army Air Corps)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUbdkLnh1kA MBDA tested it in 2016. Its always been one of the big questions marks for our Apache's (from me), if we had put it on the AH1 I think we would have used them during the Afghanistan war and then we would have gotten our moneys worth with that investment. A...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

None as type 31 has not been fitted out yet and we are still waiting too see Well that's told me, I am sure the weapon system for all ships are decided after they are structurally completed and floated into dry dock for fitting out, not you know before you start building them (or dare I say decided...

14 UAVs in one wave - this isn’t a fight to take a knife to.
How many missiles did we originally put on the Type 31

new guy wrote: 11 Dec 2023, 21:36 I believe MoD would buy MK41 separately, and this contract is to put it, or whatever the negotiated fit is, in the ship. Same with T26.
Would the order for the MK41 not happen before this?

Because Lockheed Martin aren’t involved n tempest. Here's an idea for Lockheed, get your software sorted out and integrate our weapons in a timely manner and you might have a leg to stand on. 11 years for meteor is still unacceptable (and that doesn't include the added time to retrofit and update o...

"Quick we don't have enough F-35's, I know lets buy more of F-35's!" It doesn't really make sense, don't they come off the same production line? :wtf: If they RAF wants more aircraft it always comes back to the Tranche 1 Typhoons and getting the support structure set up for them. Nicholas ...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

The Royal Navy wants the Mk 41 on the Type 31 and Babcock are also finalising design activities including integration of Mk 41 VLS but it seems like we are unwilling to take the final step and announce that its going to happen. I guess it start off a bunch of other stuff as we would need for it to h...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Probably an unpopular opinion; cats and traps is an unhelpful distraction from developing the carriers I do agree, I would love to have two cats and traps carriers but we have been through the mill with these carriers, with defects, possibility of only getting one and other scares, now that we have...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

Its something that's been on my mind for a while, we have all called for more equipment/funding for the armed forces but are we saying (for example) if due to world events we were order another 8 type 26's we wouldn't have the manpower to use them?

Its now a Catch 22, they have no work for after the ferries so the work force are in no hurry to finish them, they cant get more work cause of how they have handled these ferries.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

It feels as though UK decisions just now are being made on what can be done not what should be done; resource-based rather than strategy-led.
Is this everything coming home to roost? :(
