Re: Army Reserves funds for training cut

Sorry no link, just chatting to friends have had training cut. Mostly a reduction in weekly training to three evenings a month but includes a reduction in numbers of the men allowed to accompany a regular battalion abroad (training not operations). It seems to have affected the RMR and RNR people I ...

Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)

We suffer from a system where changes come as the result of government, dare I suggest Treasury, policies. True situations and technology changes but so to does our amphibious force. The Royal Marines and Royal Navy, evolved steadily making use of experience, the successes and failures of their own ...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

I wasn't the one advocating that plan. If you have a company size unit deployed on two or three "frigates" where does the pre-landing briefing take place? The company does not split down into three equal size sub units, does the larger one, a platoon with Coy HQ and support elements, get c...

Re: Army Reserves funds for training cut

I'm not the one making snide remarks, after reading your comment I changed my post but still had a certain senior member making stupid remarks. I hoped that people here had enough intelligence to discuss a subject (and I do accept that the original wording could have been better) rather than do this...

Re: Army Reserves funds for training cut

Is your underwear twisted or something? If you have nothing to discuss other than personal animosity then why comment at all? This sort of "civil disobedience" should lead to cutting the whole thread: - not locking - cutting; start again! But who am I to say. Personally, I've started to ig...

I may, I may not. Personally I dislike some of what you write.

Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)

When was this? Also in low sea state, ive never seen a mexe picture in the surf zone. look how calm the beachheads were in the Falkland's campaign . Bob Brown who had years of experience as a coxswain lost a A. T. Land rover of a mexe float at Dourness bay(Cape Wrath). When the tie down eye came out...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Landing craft sink less often than helicopters crash and what happens if Helicopters can't fly due to wheather, sea conditions, mehcanical failure, operational necessity I could go on. Or if the Helicopter ploughs in to the sea with the command element? Exact same arguments exist for any other mode ...

Mexefloat are for stores and vehicles not men. What alternatives are there for carrying and operating LCU's? because we certainly don't have them

There are alternatives for transporting landing craft, LPD's are not the only solution.

Army Reserves funds for training cut

New cuts to Reserve Forces training and funding for surplus and additional man training days having been stopped in many units. Great thing to do when we are supposed to rely so heavily on our reserves. Training not equipment are the war winners but no one seems to have told the MOD. With all the at...

Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)

Bays carry 1 LCU each and LCVP on deck at the expense of stores and equipment. We have no other ships that carry LCU It's the only way to move LCU's and control the operations. No LPD then no amphibious ops. How do you reach that conclusion? There a handful of other platforms used to transport landi...

Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)

Your plan adds complexity and increases the movement of men and vessels, as well as increasing radio traffic, all adding to the chances of the enemy beating you to the landing spot or locating covert LUP's. Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)

1st wave, 2nd wave? Sounds like a D-Day Normandy invasion scenario! Helicopters have no stealth, they are noisy and easily seen by radar. Why do you keep going back to a D-Day - Normandy invasion scenario? 1st wave, 2nd wave it's as close to reality as my chances of getting off my behind and passing...

Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)

LHA can't carry LCU's. Aviation isn't a replacement for landing craft It's the only way to move LCU's and control the operations. No LPD then no amphibious ops. and how do you plan to transport the LCU's to an operational theatre? the LPD is probably the most efficient way of moving LCU's over open ...

RFA LCU? The RFA don't operate LCU. On the rare occasions that LCU do operate from the Bay's it is done by a detachment from the Royal Marines, and then only one. I'm sorry but your outline is so far removed from anything I've seen, taken part in, read about or even heard discussed that I can only a...
