Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels

HMS Mersey decommissions later this year. HMS Clyde and HMS Severn in 2019. HMS Tyne does not appear in the list, for some reason, but i'm pretty sure it is just a mistake. She'll probably go out before HMS Mersey. Big news, it is. Thanks. http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-ques...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Repulse I am not saying that the lose of s 30,000tn LHD wouldn't be bad it would be awful militarily and politically... I think it was Donald-San that said that? Yes its me. so donald nice video of mexefloat do you thing they are suitable for assualt landings? that is about as fast as they go and I...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

To me the CVF wouldn't be risked at all it is far to valuable, could you imgain if one of damaged or even sunk the political ramifications would be seen as far to bigger risk ... I understand your view point, but I do not agree. Very interesting you think the large 30,000t LHD with 1000 RM onboard ...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Bay's well dock

See 1:33. Mexefloat is 7.32 m wide. I think they have 1 m left on each side. So, yes Bays's well dock is narrow, maybe around 9-10 m wide.

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

1: simple width calculation I could not find Bay's well-docks size. Do anybody know it? By the way, - Netherland's LCU Mk2 is 6.85m wide and UK's LCU Mk.10 is 7.70m wide (0.85m wider) - Rotterdam's (an Enforcer design) well-dock can handle 2 LCU Mk.2 side-by-side, and it is 27m wide. On the other ha...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Not really, no. It isn't. It is sized for a single LCU, with very little room at the sides. To double the number of LCU would take double the lenght or double the width, relocating all spaces that currently surround the dock. So, i think the modifications would be pretty wide ranging to add all wha...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Donald I see you stated that the only really way for the RN to get 2 LHDs is if they are small cheap LHD like the mistral class, yet the French have seen the weakness of the mistral class being so small that's why they have 3 to allow 2 at all times. An LHD of that size can not give the air support...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Why replacing Albion and Bulwark with 2 LHDs in ten years should be unfeasible yet building a large LPH and 4 widely modified Bays should instead be is the first question that comes to mind... Um, my proposal is to - replace Albion with Ocean-like (slightly larger) LPH (almost 1:1 cost and man-powe...

Re: Ocean Class Helicopter Carrier (LPH) (RN)

It made "almost" 40 knots empty, Speed laden depends on load and sea conditions. It made 19-20 knots with a Challenger 2 on board, its largest and heaviest customer. Thanks a lot. Then, it is the same as (or even worse than) BMT Caimen 90. In other words, we are talking about boats with t...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

One LCU at a time...? You are looking at a loooooong landing phase. No. First of all, mexefloat was the main tool for ship-to-shore movement in 1982. So, they are efficient. Thus, I like mexefloats. But, surely they are not good at assault (1st day), because too slow on water. (I understand it mean...

Re: Ocean Class Helicopter Carrier (LPH) (RN)

...I see no merit of PASCAT over LCAC. In the well dock of the Albion class LPD you can fit either 4 LCU Mk10s or 2 LCAC. The PASCAT was designed with almost the same dimensions as the LCU Mk10, so 4 PASCATS could be carried. PACSCAT is actually brilliant. It could do a lot of good things, within a...

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels

At least for River B2, the most urgent thing I want to add to 2 out of the 5 vessels (not all) is "a retractable Wildcat hangar, with full arsenal". Arm Wildcat with 20 LMM or 4 SeaVenom, it will be a good "over the horizon" weapon to attack your enemy. The 2 hulls shall be armed...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Bays with 1 LCU and 2 Mexefloat each can land vehicles. So, it is a matter of, if we need Albion-like LPD or only Bay-like LPD(A) can do. Of course, if you have resource, buy all 3 of them, LPH, LPD and LPD(A). But, if not enough resource, then... ??

Re: Ocean Class Helicopter Carrier (LPH) (RN)

I pointed out the same thing earlier on the thread that with something like pacscat they could stand at a greater distance but no one picked it up With say pacsate the LHDs LPDs and LSDs could be put say 25-50km from the beach Yes, I also noted it. But, large LCAC is very expensive. You need to buy...

Re: Ocean Class Helicopter Carrier (LPH) (RN)

Again, how are you going to operate LHD? To use her well-dock, you need to place it near the shore. If, placing 2nd CVF near (~50nm from) the shore is "risky", placing the LHDs near (~5 km from) the shore will be "unacceptable", I guess. The LHD is filled with 1000 RMs, many pre...

This board keep rehashing the same arguments for type 31 mainly round armament and sensor capability. But that is only 2 parts of the ship. what other capabilites should it have. Should it be for example CODAG or CODAD or some other combination of propulsion. Should it have single propulsion set or...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The T31 only exists because the original T26 plan has become affordable. Anything about skills or exports are just a distraction, the T31 exists solely to be cheaper. If that constraint is removed there is no need for the T31 to exist. I do not think so. NAB-san said 6-8 hull per class is the best....

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

If the budget increases the first thing to do is scrap the T31 Why? UK desperately lacks ship building technology and what is more ship designing technology. Just make T31 Spartan or Venator 110. Build 8 of them. And then, succeed these skill to be used for designing and building T45 replacements. ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

My proposal is the same idea to be done with Cutlass. Is there the space for this flexibility? If we're proposing a single vehicle with multiple configurations, it requires a good chunk of reserve space, such a mission decks, extra large hangars and space on the foredeck for different missile confi...

Yes, self noise is a function of speed, we refine our platform's because they are to work ahead of a fairly quick carrier group, so their sonar performance need to remake a acceptable at high speed. 1: Khareef has CODOE propulsion. Electric motor can drive them up to 7 knots. Even though you need t...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

An SSK is still more effective in the shallows because they are able to better position them self within the right layers, a long towed array struggles with this, and a hull sonar is fixed. Almost agreed, but not sure VDS confronts more difficulty than sub. VDS is risking the "fish (towed body...
