Re: The Falkland Islands

Everything is perfect in hindsight of course.

I don't have an axe to grind in this as I'm not a naval engineer. Interesting nonetheless.

Re: The Falkland Islands

So clarify please, you don't believe the factual content of the report or you don't believe they didn't do some simple things to help themselves out? As in you're exasperated?

I'd smash sturgeon though, I have really low standards and done much worse in Joannas, Elgin. Probs a fair bit of work to get her juiced up! ;) God's man why the hell would you venture into that Shite Hole?? I've lived in Forres for 8 years & have avoided the place like the plague. Target rich ...

Re: General Election 2015 thread

First, congratulations to the Conservatives, the win was better than I had hoped. Glad that Millibrain is gone too. But I must admit that the election process really isn't fair and now I agree it does need some kind of reform. Compare the number of seats won by UKIP (1) and the SNP (56). Yet, UKIP ...

Re: General Election 2015 thread

No. They said no cuts to the Army, they said nothing about cuts to the RN or RAF. Mark my words, there will be cuts and capabilities chopped or at the very least reduced. Incorrect. Read the manifesto: " We will maintain the size of the regular armed services and not reduce the army to below 8...

Re: General Election 2015 thread

People had the chance to change the electoral system in 2011 and rejected it out of hand. Back to the subject of defence, just watch this SDSR. Despite electoral claims, it won't be pretty. Cameron commands a majority, The Tories have promised in their manifesto a triple lock on defence, with not c...

Re: rifle 5.56mm L85/A1/A2/ (The Rifle/ Sa80)

I also read a report when at the Pentagon that said that the majority of firefights take place with opponents no more than 20 meters apart. Certainly true of law-enforcement firefights, and perhaps not too far wrong in urban fighting like Iraq, but very different in Afghanistan. In 2008 the British...

I'll say it again
A bit of airfield BDR and a parking pad for a fuel bladder is totally different.
than proper deployed Ops. One we can do, one we can't and won't be.

For sure. But it can't be toyed with, it's all in or nothing IME. And all in costs money which takes us back to square one.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

Look fella, I know your actual military experience is virtually nil, so let me help you with this. We (UK Armed Forces) are not going to be laying down entire runways and ASPs out of matting anytime soon.....or ever for that matter. See what I did at then end of that sentence 8-) And that certainty...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

No one said it will be used all the time, but i think it is a capability that can still be employed, with some Royal Engineers help. I believe the RE emplaced a small amount of AM-2 in Northolt in 2012 in support of the 4 Typhoons deployed there for the Olympics. In front of three of the temporary ...

What you want to ask is when was the last time the matting was deployed for British Harriers. The time gap kind of indicates how likely it is that we have a usable stockpile.

We don't keep things just in case anymore.

I'm the one slightly to the left of centre as you look at it.
Pockets are not for hands. FFS.

The lack of hero sleeves is also disappointing.
