Re: UK and the European Union. In or Out?
Seeking independence from Westminster in order to be governed by Brussels. ..anyone but the English? Bingo, Pseudo. Denying it would only make it worse. Where does it end though? All this constitutional uncertainty has an effect on all of us, all 65m people, right now, we have a situation where les...

Re: UK and the European Union. In or Out?
You aren't wrong. But unfortunately I'm one of those people who lives here and all those south of the border would feel the impact too. For what its worth, I still think the people of Scotland would pull back from the precipice when faced with the cold hard stark choice of ditching the UK in favour...

Re: UK and the European Union. In or Out?
You dramatically underestimate the SNPs desperation to make this work. They want power. They don't give a damn what happens afterwards. Well in that case, if the majority of the Scottish people are dumb enough to fall for it you'll have to live with the consequences. ..but I still expect them to be...

Re: UK and the European Union. In or Out?
I've always thought that nationalism in Scotland, Wales and to a lesser extent Northern Ireland has been a problem partly of our own making. Certainly separate national sports teams and leagues have in the past stoked the embers of national rivalry even when we have been at our most unified. Fact i...

Re: UK and the European Union. In or Out?
It's quite obvious to me that Sturgeon is pretty desperate to avoid a 2nd referendum over the EU, especially with oil at $30 a barrel, at some point they're going to have to explain to the Scottish people how they would maintain services with a £9bn deficit and no oil income. But if she is crazy eno...

Re: UK's successor submarines
The problem is that approximately 35% of the population would happily be in debt up to their eyeballs, just so they could be independent. I've come to the conclusion that there are two groups within that 35%, those that have nothing anyway, so threats of cuts mean nothing, and are incredibly gullib...

Re: UK's successor submarines
£100 billion over 40yrs...bargain It will cost the rUK taxpayer nearly £360 billion to subsidise Scotland, where the subs will be based, over the same time period at current rates, currently they're spending £9billion a year more than they raise in taxes, and that shortfall is met by the rest of us....

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
Losing T26 hulls to pay for 138 F35's...WTF!!! I'm sorry, but I'd far rather see us dropping the F35 count to the 80-90 level in order to free up funds to pay for a full complement of 13 T26. In full surge mode. we'll never see more than 40 F35's at sea with our one 'always available' carrier, so 80...

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
Agree we need more. However even if the funds where available, the entire economics of building extras just won't work out. We couldn't even if the money was there...the new Trident boats will take all of the submarine construction capacity we have after the seventh boat is completed. More Astute's...

£1.3b contract signed for the next Astute class submarine. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/13bn-contract-awarded-for-latest-attack-submarine I'd be impressed if just one of these idiot politicians acknowledged the fact that seven boats is not enough, the RN needs a 10-12 strong Astute force. Re: Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (Army)
I'd like it better if it didn't cut between scenes so much. It's always instructive to see how the Challengers are left wallowing in the wake of the Leopards which are going so much faster. ..or maybe the German tank crew were just pressing down harder on the accelerator pedal in those particular s...

Re: CANADA
The French have been pushing the Rafale for a long while now, I give them ten out of ten for their efforts. Unlike the Eurofighter consortium who seem to think that buyers should approach them. As I understand it, BAE said it would not pursue any Typhoon sales in Canada because of its involvement i...

Just a question of priorities, keep it going for another decade or so, then when all the other required Army vehicles have been replaced, put in an order for a couple of hundred 'off the shelf' tanks from the Germans I suppose.

Why not just use the old Tranche 1 jets as a cheap QRA missile platform for Mr Putins flyboys and shift any Tranche 2 jets currently doing it over to the Tornado role?
QRA patrols don't have to be the latest and greatest.
