Re: SDSR 2015 / "Defence Cuts" General News & Discussion
Lugzy it is not a silly question. Also remember the Ajax/Scout thingies are not yet built. They are talking of the future not tomorrow probably 2020 before anything happens. Yes I agree how can you rapidly deploy heavy/medium weight armour rapidly.

Re: Ajax (ex 'Scout') Armoured Vehicle Variants (Army)
This latest SDSR mentions two rapidly deployable brigades based on the AJAX armoured vehicle, well my thoughts are; that this is not going to happen for some time, as it will take some years before the AJAX comes into service...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
There is the part where the chancellor says "Second only to the US" has he forgotten the Chinese who are building carriers at the moment and already have one sort of in service. And the Indians have a couple......more smoke and mirrors.

The chancellor did not say we were getting 138 daves the newspaper did. All he said was 24 by 2023.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
So where does our illustrious stool pigeon of a defence secretary stand in all of this, all the recent statements appear to be coming from Gorgeous George and Porkie Dave? A bit of a let down especially as HMS Queen Elizabeth is within a year of moving under her own power and starting trials.

Yep smoke and mirrors as we already have 14 on order then perhaps they will order another 10 by 2023, 8 years away.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
Probably we will get up to 80 airframes, but spread out over a long period, a lot of the earlier purchases requiring modifications to bring them up to later specifications.

I worked in Saudi Arabia for ICAO, which is the International Civil Aviation Authority, for several years as a Radar Engineer, this was back in the days when Bin Laden was fighting the Russians in Afghanistan. Without doubt you are correct regarding the Saudi Human rights. I would add that they are also sponsors of terrorism in various places. As production drops unfortunately jobs will go and expertise. What is needed is some form of aircraft production to keep them going the Hawk Trainer T1 is coming to the end of its life as is the Tornado.
