Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Jake 1992 Given type 26s size I don’t really see the need to extend or shorten the length of the hull. It would more be about what sensors are incorporated and integrating them with the combat management system. The benefit of having the missile launchers type 26 will have is we can incorporate alm...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Try to have a reasnable chat about Type 31 and alternatives and get blown out of the water with a bunch of fantasy stuff. Pisses me off. I have zero problem with fantasy but only in its own dedicated thread. For goodness sake moderators get off your asses and split fantasy from actual. Two threads:...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

A fleet of these 3 classes loaded out as Iv described above would set us up with a flexible and very capable navy. It would also give us an ecomnoy of scale on build while also reduce training and maintainence cost.

For me I would of liked to of gone for a long term plan based around 3 classed all based on varying lengths of the T26 hull design I think we would all like to see a costed (and affordable) long term plan  1 - the T26 it's self with a few changes: replace the mid ship CAMM mushroom silos w...

Tempest Exactly many forget the 1st type 26 won’t be operational until 2027 by which stage type 45 will have been in service for 20 years by the 4th type 26 it will of been 25 years +. Taking the decision now on a long term strategy give confidence to the manufacturing base which has deep distrust ...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Not sure what would be trialed. Looks like they took an ASW helo's equipment and stuck it in a unmanned speedboat. Personally I see zero technology breakthrough here. I doubt if the speedboats could cope with North Sea conditions let alone the Atlantic and how long exactly would they take to reach ...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

Absolutely. GD are offering and IFV version of Ajax to Australia for as part of Land 400, giving us a great opportunity to cooperate on Ajax and Bower. Now is the time to cancel Warrior and forge ahead with a common platform, but I don't think the Army have the stomach or money for such a move. The...

Re: British Army Future Wheeled APC

The 1500 is the old 'future orders' carrot on a stick to try and lower the unit cost. Any manufacturer worth their salt should know to ignore it. To me it would make sence to order and high number of boxer and Ajax varients, so eventually all our medium armour is replace by just 2 family's ( wheele...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

Why do you assume the cost would be significant ? Because it usually is. They have the CT40 on the Ajax yes the body for the IFV is slightly different but not to the extent that it would requir a major redesign So the interfacing region is different, which you'd have to account for. Which is more t...

Finally found I higher res images This is there modal for the Aus Land 400 bid. It's fitted with a 30mm to meat the requirements of the compatition. So no CT40 variant without significant development cost? Especially considering that 8 dismounts requires a remote turret. Why do you assume the cost ...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

The Ajax turret with the 40mm is being provided by Lockheed Martin, so it could be something to do with that, or a requirement, as you say. Or the large recce turret wouldn’t fit so well with the space you need in the hull. Either way, it would be risky to assume that you could just chuck a larger ...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

If you look at the Ajax and ares hulls there it's not much difference other than on the ares the hull rises up where the turret would be on the Ajax You mean that the hull roof, where the turret is attached, on the IFV/Ares is different from the Ajax? Yes, that is what I was getting at. I do see wh...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

When reading in to the Australian proposal it's based on the ascod 2 the same as Ajax is but fitted with a 2 man 30mm. It's reasonable to assume that in this case the CT40 could be fitted just like with Ajax If you compare the hull shown in the IFV picture to the hulls of Ajax and Ares, it is very ...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

Considering this new IFV is based on the Ajax which is designed to operate the CT40 changing the design from the Aus turret back to a CT40 would not cost an arm and a leg. Is it based on the Ajax or the Ares? Given the hull shape, I'd think the latter, which may result in limitations that preclude ...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

We can now see the IFV Ajax is here so design costs to bring it in line with what we'd want would be minimul. Say change out the turret to a CT40 so it falls in line with the Ajax scout. Assuming you meant minimal cost, you’ve got a funny idea of what “minimal” means. Developing a new turret to fit...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)

What are the chances of us adopting the Ajax based variant as a Replacemt for the Warriors at some point, with it being put forward for the Aus set up it wouldn't mean us developing a new IFV.

Would it be a better option than upgrading the Warriors ?

Re: AS-90 Self-Propelled Gun (Army)

If one were looking to replace AS90 in the 2020s, then the replacement system would depend greatly on what the rest of the army looks like and is planned to look like at that point. Well realistically SPA is going to be needed no matter what ( yes numbers may vaery depending on the planed set up ) ...

Re: AS-90 Self-Propelled Gun (Army)

I can see no reason for replacing AS 90. What's the problem with it? Weight? Well as the main vehicles in our so called medium force are all going to weigh in at not much under 40 tons, I cant see why AS 90 at around 45 tons would be much of a problem. No 52 calibre gun? Well if its needed fit one,...

Re: AS-90 Self-Propelled Gun (Army)

The Swedish Archer like the South African G-6 Rhino are superb artillery platforms but are as heavy as they tracked counter parts. The UK really needs a light but still protected weapon system to replace the AS-90, that also has greater performance, so would probably use the latest extended range v...
