Think the goal is to get the Germans to free up the licenses that allows transfer of Leopard 2's to Ukraine. M1's fuel requirements and servicing will probably hurt ukraine more than help them right now.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
India has unfortunately shown itself to be an unreliable partner, in an era when right thinking nations are stepping forward and firmly hammering their colours to the mast. I hope they don't look towards Russia for help if China attacks, I doubt their loyalty to Putin will be rewarded.. India is no...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Absolutely, it had been hypothesised that SAAB would lead design of a single engine smaller machine, using the engine, avionics and new construction techniques within Tempest, creating a highly scalable high low mix that could have played well to the market. I think that the KAI KF-21 is in the ord...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Looks like Sweden is a bit pissed. Guessing they are out. Saab's setback - misses out on the giant project with Great Britain Saab is outmaneuvered from the joint development of a new future combat aircraft that the Swedish government agreed with Great Britain in 2019. It would have secured the nex...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
They are being foolish, the Tempest maybe to big for their needs but being involved in the program would help pay to put the subsystems developed into their own airframe (Gripen or something newer). Absolutely, it had been hypothesised that SAAB would lead design of a single engine smaller machine,...

Merry Christmas Lone Ranger, just reading the various news reports. The Japanese are very keen to drive forward.... The highly likely next Labour administration in the UK, just at a pivotal point for Tempest, must cast some doubts in Tokyo... For that reason alone, considerable pressure will be exe...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
It's interesting to note that it's now the Japanese who seem to be dictating the drum beat. They are very keen enter the detail design and engineering phase in 2024, possibly a year or two prior to the UK's ideal time line. Where - how do you come to this conclusion? The pace is more dictated by th...

https://twitter.com/NavyLookout/status/1606355713256718344  Agree - lol - we should enforce paycut as soldiers can do the job better and as we all know they are paid less ( unfortunately ) and then we need to introduce performance based pay that they can go back to their "old" salari...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I agree that I think Italians will want an "equal share" up until major investment is required, and will then pull out, but by that point having guaranted the involvement of Italian companies to manufacture components which I suspect was their likely end goal all along. I suspect that bot...

FCAS Update : https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/european-future-combat-air-program-wants-demonstrators-flying-by-2029 The fact that FCAS is too large to operate from the new French carrier - is an interesting observation for sure. I guess they were forced to make this statement - even though the...

Re: The war in Ukraine
Another thing that comes to mind is that the Americans tend to store their decommisioned systems such that if required - as is now for Ukraine - they can be supplied. The UK tends to not do this and as such there were a number of systems eg Rapier(!!!) that we could have sent to Ukraine which would ...

Think that is the Americans way of telling Germany to step up and supply more systems to Ukraine - rather than sitting on the sidelines and sprinkling in the odd old system from time to time..

Excellent news that the project has been inked with international partners with contractual obligations that stops the UK bean counters from cancelling the project without loss of face for the UK.. The emphasis on equal partners is interesting and good and reflects the ongoing issues that the Franco...

https://twitter.com/lucasfoxnews/status/1599131898760298496?s=61&t=uvg9nZKNv_yN5_q7rSvW2g This just highlights how little prepared the west/NATO is for war when ammunition supplies are so low. I guess, there will be the need for a rethink on procurement capabilities, procurement pipelines and s...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I can’t help but feel that we’d get more, better quality jets with less expensive through life support costs if we just went all in with the Americans like we did with F35. The Tempest programme offers industrial capability that an all in F-35 programme wont offer, and the use for the Tempest is di...

Re: The war in Ukraine
Pushing aside something like 200,000 often well dug in troops easier said than done ,the foliage providing cover in trees that both sides have hidden beneath will be gone allowing drones to easier find them True - also Ukraines trained soldiers are now hitting the frontlines in mass aswell, and Rus...
