However for me there is no getting away from the idea that the 5" gun is on the wrong ship the Type 26 by its numbers will be stuck with the Carriers and CASD. And the idea that we will send a single type 26 or two to do NGFS is madness

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
I have to say that for me 80 would be a good number and I agree they should end up under the FAA. I also agree that the RAF should focus on Typhoon , Tempest and something like Taranis with a view to having 8 manned Sqn's and 6 UAV strike Sqn's. I feel if we ended up with 80 F-35b under the FAA they...

https://live.staticflickr.com/2601/3699524050_ec483aea97_c.jpg The front of Hermes' ramp has a streamlined rounded wing-edge look about it. Was it designed that way to generate aerodynamic uplift for Sea Harriers? Or to reduce drag (slowing the ship) from a simpler slab-fronted QE style ramp? I als...

It wouldn't be type 31 they are ordered there are two questions how many do they wont and when do they wont them. if they wont 3 and they wont the first ship in 2023 no problemJensy wrote:If however this is a cunning plan to reduce type 31, or even worse Type 26 numbers, then we have a problem.

The majority here thought the Babcock's design to be superior. Why would the RN be any different? And I am one who thinks it was the best of the bunch and thinks it has a lot to offer as I have said time and time again with its size range radar and CMS it is really close to being a good GP frigate....

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
This is why we talk about Mission Bays etc. The T31s are ordered, and whilst I do not like them, it would waste money to cancel them - we should make them useful. I think we can all agree that Type 31 as it stands is a miss match and it would help if the RN came out and said why they had chosen it ...

As I said we all want more but as Type 26 is to get 24 Mk-41 and 48 CAMM and type 26 will be replacing the 8 T-23 ASW I think the RN should get 10 sets of NSM to be fitted on the Type 45 and Type 31 giving both classes a OTH anti-ship / Land attack capability and given the 200 million pounds set out...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
The thing for me here is there is a lot of people beating up Type 31 for its boat bays or for not having a mission bay but the only escort ship being built or designed now that has a mission bay is Type 26 and it sub classes. The three things that should be pick up on is the lack of Sonar the low nu...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
The original Venator 90 would be ideal. But I don't think it would be a good idea to throw HMS Scott in the mix. Very different platform and really needs a dedicated, larger, replacement. May be right about HMS Scott however I just think with unmanned kit getting bigger a 100 ship is needed and the...

The MCM/Survey ships should be replaced by cheap PSV-based civilian hulls that can carry/ support off-board systems (containerised or other) of any flavour. but as I keep saying a 100 meter Verari is just a PSV with the kit needed to carry out the Task and to carry out the task of MCM and Survey it...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
I was trying to avoid fantasy fleets, as the point I am making is the type of radical restructure/refocus required to free up money for the enlarged defence requirements (cyber and space), and also the impact (and cost) of unmanned systems. My view is that the RN needs to retain a serious manned gl...

So you are saying that you would reduce T45 x 1? No if I haven't given it a task it goes in the all other tasks group. For me the important thing is that the carrier groups and the LSG go to sea as a group and undertake maintenance and leave as a group. As for the remaining 1 T-45 , 3 T-26 , 4 T-31...
