How about a refit to 64+ mk41 cells, and 4 x triple ExLS cells. Could then have 64+ Aster 30's and 48 CAMM.
Make 2 common launchers accross the fleet for vertically launched missiles.

On the Type 45, if you were to rip out ALL the Sylver silos, how many Mk41's could you fit between the gun and the superstructure?

Could this have an impact the T31 programme? How does the watertight integrity of Leander compare with A120/A140? It could have a big impact on the US frigate program when it comes to what is on the table With the at sea collisions the USN has suffered in recent years, how many ships and lives coul...

Probably not, but the admiralty may be trying to protect the order a bit, makes it more difficult for politicians to cancel a ship named after London than an unnamed ship.

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
The government needs to get its damn act together with regards to defence, it is ultimately the number one responsibility, not a cash cow to be milked for easy votes. To even claim they can get a warship for the price of just 2 x F-35B's is in my mind ludicrous. Now if it was a warship or flight of ...

With the Australian Type 26 deal it's a shame we cannot adjust our design to incorporate the CEAFAR2 radar then recycle the type 23 artisans to the type 31's, MHC/MHPC's and any and all Rfa's we have.

UK/Japan with elements out to Canada / Australia (& New Zealand)
All island nations (except Canada, but oceans either side and massive land mass without divert runways) thus range important, all friendly to USA but not wanting to be over reliant..
Can only dream...

RN(FAA) lands, then RAF lands.
Then...
RAF takes off, then RN(FAA) takes off, simples.
Should be RN(FAA) both first though!

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)
Surely an easy answer for the UK is to continue to use 30mm guns, but just select the MSI Sigma mount with capability to add 7 LMM/Starstreak on the side. Gives it decent punch to deal with UAV's and small vessels at extended range for bugger all cost. If the will was there it would probably make a...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
Loaded with long range weaponry such as storm shadow and meteor, why can't it act as a bomb truck for clean f35's for many years to come? As a QRA aircraft surely it will remain effective for years? Surely CFT's would even just be worth it for both QRA and training flights as it lowers the demand on...

Would be nice to see the aircraft fully developed CFT, AESA radar, Aerodynamic Modification Kit (LERX and strakes) and EJ230 with thrust vectoring applied, would cost a bloody fortune though.

8 SSN 4 SSBN 8 SSK say a modern upholder class, until they get replaced end of life with SSN. With the long term objective being 2 batches of 8 SSN (Astute replacement with VLS and a smaller designed boat better for more confined waters and SBS type naughty stuff) and 4 SSBN. Just need M.o.D. to win...

Long term numbers of 12 SSN (or even better 2 batches of 8) at rate of 1 per year and 4 SSBN at 1 per 2 year.
Lifetime of 20-24 years gives a nice drumbeat for construction.
So short term 7ssn 5ssk 4ssbn works. My vote is soryu class from Japan.

I'd rather avoid India and Turkey as I very much doubt the security of the project. Also the tech transfer rights and the manufacturing rights and guarantees they will want will be rediculous.

With the recent news about the mk41 silo order, could a future growth mod be to replace the forward dedicated CAMM silos with another 3 mk41 modules giving 48 cell, (of which some could be quad pack Camm)?
