I do not know if this has been addressed but BAE wants to participate in the Franco-German project. If you have any influence, please do not allow them to if you wish to avoid lateness and cost overruns. I'm sure leaving it to the folks that brought you A400 & NH90 will guarantee on t...

Re: Apache Attack Helicopter (Army Air Corps)
Not quite correct. They are brand new airframes with brand new engines. Capable of flying.
Some add on system are being re-used from BA Apaches.
It's kinda like you buying a new car but re-installing your fancy audio system from your old vehicle.

"CAMM-ER is a little bit fatter than ours, but is it too wide to fit in out silos?" It's a metre longer as well. You have to say it seems like a no-brainer for the RN and Army. 45km+ (and I think it's significantly further than that) range is a capability we've not had ever on most of the...

If the RN aspired to reduce their standards to that of the Irish navy, you might have a point but seeing as they don't ... The point, which you clearly missed, was about the relative costs of the BAE and Vard/ Babcocks designs. Both will be good at the OPV job, but one costs vastly more than the ot...

Despite The Times deciding that the F-35 is an already obsolete and failed project, a new round of ski jump tests have started in prep for arriving on the carrier next year. Anyone know if Marham will have a dummy ski jump like the one seen at Yeovilton during the good old FA2 days? http://www.jane...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Ironically the high cost of warship refits led to the original T23 concept of a warship that would never need a mid life refit because they wouldn't be in service long enough. The quote from the RN on the last time they changed primary missile systems said it was in the 70's so I think Gibmariner wi...

Trouble on deck from the Times The F-35 joint strike fighter was supposed to be the answer to all the West’s air defence needs for the early decades of the 21st century. It is turning into an object lesson in the pitfalls of procurement. If the Ministry of Defence continues on its present course of ...

Both the Australian & Canadian pictures show the latest T26 hull form so its reasonable to assume their sensor fits are the latest proposals. The rationale for thinking the T23 silo's are being reused is that in the latest CGI they look just like the T23 installation. I can't think of a good rea...

CAMM silo's are extremely simple, not much more than a metal framework. No fire suppression systems really needed just some thick surrounding plate to direct hang fires/BD upwards. HMS Argyll was to have carried out initial CAMM firings early this year in the Hebrides with the missile becoming opera...

Where do you see 3 SeaRam? I was looking at the shapes of the radar cones in a 200% view; the two smallest looked like fire control radars as opposed to the rounder radomes - if that is the case, the third one would symmetrically, "mid-ship" on the other side. More magnification might hel...

There's many tasks an OPV can do. But, also many tasks OPV cannot while T26 is not needed. Agreed, but that suggests is a 3 tier navy. I am fully on board with a navy which has depth and breadth of assets, but have to be realistic with the funds available. Evolving the River design and buying more ...

B2 Rivers are/were built to RN frigate standards. OPV's e.g. Becketts, are not. There was an online article that carefully described the differences. Sorry but I cannot remember where. Have always thought the biggest weakness in our design was the absence of allocated space for canister launched missiles, need not be Harpoon but NSM would be nice :D . When I looked at the final (?)
