To expand the escort force to 24 to cover the standing patrols we have neglected for too long I would off guessed.

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)
Anyone know what the Echo Class crane could handle? Appreciate the A-frame probably isn't up to the task. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/24/HMS_ECHO_H87.jpg/1920px-HMS_ECHO_H87.jpg Wonder how much life we could have gotten from them if the money (and crew) was there. The cra...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Composites are the most complicated bit to get right consistently doubly so on aircraft with low observable characteristics. They will be being done at competent facilities with a close hold on the technology.
I doubt they will 3d print any primary structure.

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)
Yes it does sound like the city class if that’s clearer. Stuffing all your eggs and multiple tasks into one big unsuitable basket does not equal growth. ??? we can get more LSV's for the price of City class purchases so if anything it is more baskets. Also in no possible world does the below sound ...

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)
Did you read the Naval Architects paper? Tell me , does this sound more like the City class or the LSV's? 3.6 EMBARKING THE MCM TOOLBOX Unmanned technologies are evolving fast so the ship (which is designed for a life of at least 25 years) is expected to embark several generations of the MCM toolbo...

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)
Not stubborn realistic. You clearly didn’t read the naval architects reasons of why such a vessel of the size and capability of the city class is optimal for mine countermeasures. What is also interesting is that it was UK naval architects analysis, then a whole other bunch of other naval architect...

Re: Mine countermeasures and Hydrographic capability (MHC) (MHPC)
No but none of that is on order yet, nor does it change the fact that the same mothership vessel may not be doing minesweeping and mine hunting. Wow you are stubborn. 1) Navy lookout article has said that the procurement of MHC block 2 has begun. Block 2 procurement has begun and is funded to deliv...

How have you entirely missed SWEEP/ ARCIMS and MHC bock .2?? Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I would joined the Dutch,Belgium and French program and built around 6-8 vessels… Absolutely - 8 would allow the RN to commit a vessel permanently each to SNMCMG1, SNMCMG2 and Kipion, plus one “on call” for anything happening in UK waters. Make it 10 and we’ve answered the B1 River replacement requ...

Thought this an interesting paper on the topic https://www.bmt.org/media/3054/rina-warship-2018-aitken-mcm-paper.pdf What? I believe this paper just argues for a mother ship; That is what LSV is. Give me a few minutes to read it. unmanned systems offer a revolutionary change to the concept of opera...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
We developed the system with France so what do we see that they don’t. The Dutch and Belgians was very close to UK MCM in the cold war much the same way as the Dutch marines were with 3 commando so what has changed. Wouldn’t be like us to add bespoke. Just because the french don't have the capabili...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Are they just bigger torpedoes with a fancy name? If they are sensors how do we currently deal with underwater sensor systems? I am not disagreeing with any of that, simply that the technology is changing, the threat level is rising and the MoD is dithering with the future of MCM. There is no clear...

I would say a buy of say 6 to 8 Sea Lancer could be a good thing they could be deployed across the RB1 , RB2 & T-31 classes Having all 5 T-31's capable of deploying SL would be useful Even a RB1 pulling a Sea Lancer in the the North Sea or Baltic would give Russian Sub commanders another thing ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
But OPVs also contributes to show presence. Has an impact. Of course, it is not as much as an escort. Considering the huge huge difference in resource needed to do it, this is very natural. No one is saying an OPV can have the same influence as an escort. No argument. Either you consider the area a...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Soft power is a fiction. A fiction perpetuated by this government and its many shades since Blair, based on it playing nice in the media. There is economic power and there is military power. If China comes along and offers 10 new power stations on very east terms to Bangladesh or a nice new 500m do...
