Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Great one frigate per RFA, utterly pointless. Do we not escort RFAs in locations we deem it necessary already. Yes, but you are completely missing the point by adding more and then expecting them to be paired by escorts. I’m not really, if using lots of unmanned systems is the “future” then RFAs ar...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I remain completely convinced that type 31 is what the type 23 replacement should have been all along indeed we should build a few more. It is the most sensible procurement since HMS Ocean was laid down. It’s not about adding a couple of extra missiles here or there it is a ship with comprehensive d...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

But is that not like saying a task group is scalable for a task nothing much happens individually I’m not sure that is any different to how it’s always worked on land sea and air since ww2 tbh. On your points 1. Yes but it was the navy high command that insisted on shit or bust with the carriers. 2....

Have they bought any spare f35 engines I’d be amazed if they have any more than about 1 or 2 as spares?

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Could be Sweden edging closer to actually joining GCAP program and also actually getting the finished fighter, think they must realise it's going to be a powerful aircraft, personally I would like to see Poland buying the aircraft, they have a very close relationship to UK mindset and going forwards...

If you maintain a production line and supply chain even at a very low rate it can mitigate the need for storage of ancient equipment and the difficulty of attempting to upgrade it. You buy new to the latest standard.

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

Story likely relates to BAE written evidence to defence select committee https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/115779/default/ Upgrading the RAF’s Tranche 1 Typhoon fleet It is technically feasible to bring a Tranche 1 (T1) aircraft to the standard of a Tranche 2 (T2) or Tranche 3 (T3) ai...

Exports haven't been a problem for Typhoon. Well Ron, if the UK wanted to donate it's tranche one Typhoons to Ukraine, have a guess what Germany would do. Nothing Ah yes, just like Leopard 2, it was only the huge and sustained international pressure and embarrassment by our CH2 donation, that made ...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

Your are right but we first need to set out what we want and then equip it. As we have talked about in the past one of the LM brigades needs to be all about the high North so would need to be equipped for the role. To get to a 3rd armoured brigade would need 190 challenger 3 upgrades plus as you sa...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

No point attempting to creat 3 armoured brigades if you can’t keep much more than a single armoured regiment in an advance for longer than about 6 days without running out of power packs and spare and having to pull over as a result. There has been nothing over the last 20 years that suggests the ba...
