Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
Offering a final assembly capability isn’t as inefficient as is sometimes made out. The process is to ensure that your major subs are as complete as possible prior to arriving at a FAL so traveled work is minimal and as such it gives you a workforce with a skill set to do integration, certification ...

I do wonder if we will start to see loitering munitions such as the hero systems beginning to replace traditional artillery in the light forces given the roles they do.

That should have been areas that *don't* suffer from stress/flex. Perhaps start with bungs, blanks and covers using this process, if it's significantly cheaper. Some of the prices we pay for them are crazy money. Have u seen the picture doing the rounds of an airline using a paddling pool as an eng...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Process repeatability questions and the flight hour restrictions/inspections that design signatories would put on these in any loaded areas will make them of limited use until there is significantly more data.

I think one of the interesting things is that there will be by design fwd deployed a/c and maintenance facilities in Cyprus and Brunei with the same type we have for medium supt which isn’t something that has happened since the Wessex and maybe quite useful

I think the helicopters out in Cyprus still have a Bambi bucket requirement so ignoring the many other uses of such a capability I think underslung capacity will be required.Lord Jim wrote:so underslung capability and anything other than door gunners can probable be dispense with as far as requirements go.

The Bristow SAR contract expires at the end of 2026. That's 20+ units right there : https://www.business-live.co.uk/manufacturing/airbus-draken-europe-bid-run-20185745 I have this dream of an all AW149 fleet, economies of scale, long term viability for Yeovil, shared support etc... Re: Puma Helicopter (RAF)
I don’t think aw149 will take as many as 16 troops fully kitted out, nor do I think that will be the requirement. Probably more like 8 plus 2 door gunners. Be interesting to see what the underslung load requirement might be. A winch and fast rope capability a sub 50ft rotor dia along with probably a...

It looks to me like two paths starting to present themselves aw149 and into a future medium rotorcraft with Leonardo/airbus or a sh60 purchase thru to the future US rotorcraft programs. A first test for a policy of placing a premium on UK content perhaps.

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
I hope that these BCT are actually BCT in a similar fashion to how the the US configures where they are actually a fully joined up combined arms formation and not a simple window dressing of what we already have we will have to wait to see. Deep recce strike brigade has a logic. Detractors will say ...
