Re: Italian Armed Forces

I read somewhere that teh Netherlands is sending a number of its PzHbs 2000 1555mm SPGs to Ukraine. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Have definitely seen that myself, article here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/sebastienroblin/2022/04/21/the-dutch-are-sending-huge-german-armored-howitzers-to-ukraine...

More artillery on the way and in serious quantity (which presumably could be continued for a long, long time if needs be): https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1517155888196333568 Two Russian helicopters were shot down in quick succession by MANPADS today with a warplane (probably SU-34, both crew eject...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Multiple reports (including from Zelensky himself) that Russia has commenced a full-scale offensive in the Donbass and battle is raging across the entire frontline. Interesting that they did not / could not wait for Mariupol to completely fall. If Russia cannot succeed with this much reduced objecti...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant that perhaps the decision not to install those on the QE class was taken so that they could instead be installed on the B1 Rivers and Echos when their existing guns are retired?

Re: The war in Ukraine

What are the latest details on the number of survivors? I hope it is more than the 58 mentioned above. Re: The war in Ukraine

Given the volume of stuff going that direction now I wonder if anyone is worried that it may not all end up in friendly hands and maybe sold on to others wonder how carefully we’re watching I could potentially see Ukraine, if they secure a victory, then being tempted (whether the govt as a whole or...

Re: The war in Ukraine

The British Sky Sabre would be an ideal weapon but this is only just entering service with the British Army. Personally, I think sending our Rapier batteries would be ideal. We are replacing them anyway, they would still be pretty decent especially when compared to nothing at all and we can order m...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Our contribution to defending Norway under NATO goes way back to when we were seen as the No2 Navy in both size and capability in NATO Sorry for going off on a tangent but to my mind this is still the case? The French aren't far away at all and the Italians have significantly narrowed the gap to us...

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

From what I remember of seeing the video released of that trial it did seem that firing Martlet from one of those mounts resulted in fairly significant backblast which could potentially damage the ship, not to mention injuring or worse any personnel stood in the wrong place. It may be that this was ...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Just how vulnerable are Russian tanks (or all tanks?) to attack from the rear? I was not expecting to see a 30mm auto-cannon being sufficient to disable or destroy two T-72s in quick succession...maybe hit externally stored fuel?

Re: RN anti-ship missiles

While I do accept that launching Tomahawk from a submarine will give away the submarine's location it seems to me that this is still much better than launching from surface ships where the enemy will already know (and a sophisticated enemy be able to target) the ship's location and be able to calcul...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

The main lesson I have drawn from Ukraine so far is not that we need new equipment (although we do) but instead that we need far larger stocks of ammunition, bombs, missiles etc. We would be running out within days (a week at most) in any high intensity conflict.

The minimum number will be the number contained in this list which in reality is a vast underestimate because not every destroyed tank will be caught on video or with a camera. The number is currently 405 tanks and 2360 total equipment. https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-document...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

We need to be very careful when saying the days of the MBT are over because of UAS. I am no military expert but to my mind a combination of drones and ATGMs does seem to have rendered a tank a very dangerous place to be. In Syria rebel ATGMs have destroyed thousands of armoured vehicles and even ol...

Sorry this is probably a dumb question but how is Starstreak night capable? I thought the operator had to visually track the target?
