Re: Scotland (Political Thread)

I think Scottish independence is inevitable. This has been driven by the Few, and now seems to be infectious. I agree that negotiations should begin before any 2nd referendum, to give Scott's a fully informed choice, knowing what independence would actually look like. I also believe that a third opt...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

So we're stuck with the ramp The main operator of the F35B doesn’t use a ramp at sea.[/quote So? Are you saying the ramp has no benefit? I'm sure if the Wasps and the Americas were a little longer, they would have one too? Either way if you put a Cat on QE, it would be in the waist position, as her...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Why wouldn't you. Having an angled landing on deck makes sense, as I'm sure some types would not appreciate the ramp if they missed the wires. Plus were forgetting the whole point of an angled deck, it keeps your parked stuff separate to aircraft landing on. In fact the SRVL concept seems a little ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

At the risk of ridicule, I have always believed that the QE class are capable of having wires and a cat (or two) in the waist position, while retaining the ramp. I don't believe an extra bit of deck welded on to form an angled deck is required, as they are wide enough to have an angled landing area,...

Taken to its natural conclusion you would take out the middle man, and go for autonomous ultra long range torpedoes. Call them what you like, suicide Autonomous SSK, AI torpedo.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

It's a very good point that future CIWS presents many challenges. From unsophisticated Terrorism to top end adversary, the integration of a multi layered approach using AI control over energy weapons to Missiles and Smart Ammo. I can't see how just one weapon system could cope in the future, and why...

Isn't this meant to be our Conventional Detterent Core?
First time she will have double figures fast jets on deck, and the Majority of those are someone else's!
First's should be ours.
Timing of these two Excercises Is poor at best.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Just on the 40mm+P3 ammo v LMM Chat, P3 while very clever, is still unguided, unless I missed something? and as such is not infallible (what is??). LMM gives another layer of defence and while No system has a 100% kill rate is therefore valuable and complimentary to P3, in my opinion.

Now if you could combine the 40mm with LMM, then your talking.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I agree that T45 needs at least 100+ SAM. 48 is no where near enough. It means a top tier enemy knows exactly how to Defeat one. Once the missiles are gone, they're gone.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

As with Type 82 and CVA01, I would like to see Two 'armed to the teeth' Stretched Type 26 Dedicated CV Escort and Command Ships. This could reduce the CBG Escort Size, freeing up Hulls for other Duties, or enabling Detachable Units from the core group.

I agree T26 numbers are at risk. I can see us just getting three, with T31 rising to 10, then getting that number cut too, 8 or less!
Fingers crossed that doesn't happen.

This whole P8 purchase is a complete and utter waste of money, and if it's just me that doesn't want anymore of the bloody things, then I'm comfortable with that.
