A sad day.
And they used to call the Tonka 'Jackal of all trades master of none'
The King is dead, long live the King.
Time to take off the rose tinted glass's folks.

This whole P8 purchase is a complete and utter waste of money, and if it's just me that doesn't want anymore of the bloody things, then I'm comfortable with that.

To sell one of them would be ridiculous. The hard bit was to build them. But we do have history for doing mad things in procurement and disposal. I can't think of a Nation with a worse record?

I remember watching an American Documentary about the X1 where some American 'Expert' claimed that the all moving or flying tail was an American invention, and the British hadn't got a clue on how to solve the controllability issue! I also remember that it was the yanks who cracked Enigma, capturing...

That's one way to dry the deck. Can't recall a fixed wing jet ever departing a Carrier alongside before? Not even a SHAR?
Edit, just been reminded that Hermes launched her harriers that returned with her from the Falklands, while she was in Portsmouth!

Let's hope this doesn't turn out to be the one of the shortest commissions in RN history. Election on the 12th.

I make that 5 years and 10 days since PoW assembly at Rosyth began on 9th September 2014. (1836 days) Or 8 years, 3 months, 24 days since first steel was cut on 26th May 2011. (3038 days) That answers my question I asked years ago about how long she would take to build and be contractually 'finishe...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'm sure the Joint Strike force practice AAR anyway. The Top Gun documentary was showing a New F35 pilots first AAR attempt. So no shame there. To fly them to the U.S. Instead of taking them on QE seems a bit of a waste to me, both environmentally and in flying hours. While I see the need to carry o...

Any news on F35 numbers to be taken? Will they fly into Portsmouth today, or are they more likely to join QE out at see, and with a little more privacy, maybe a day or two after departing? Seven F-35B's were mentioned for Westlant 19 when Jerry Kyd was CO during Westlant 18. There's no way F-35B's ...

T26 comment, not news so here it is,
8 years to build a Frigate?
The same yard completed Lb03 and Lb04 in less time, with more metal than 3 T26.
QE was At sea in 8 yrs!
Please explain?

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
9th T26, Yes. However I will never understand the logic for Batch 2 OPV and T31. Surely the combined cost of these 2 projects would have given 5 proper Frigates, while retaining the 4 Batch 1/1.5 OPV's? The Adelaide yard demonstrates the benefit of a Frigate Factory, opposed to our current position....
