Re: Section Infantry Weapons

Will our next "Service" Rifle still be in 5.56mm or will we choose something else, adopt the 6.8mm cartridge as used on the M5 and M250 now being adopted by the US Army? Unless the SIG 6.8mm round is basically made available gratis as a design to European countries I can't see anyone else...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

We agree, what5 I was aiming at is that I could see the German plant being reduced to more a R&D centre with more limited manufacturing capacity with the UK sites being the main production hub. AS for what Boxer could replace and how many we could end up buying, I can see it replacing the CVR(T)...

Re: The war in Ukraine

In addition to the heavy equipment other Countries have given to Ukraine, the amount of personal equipment worn by many Ukranian troop gives them the appearance of western forces. They even now appear to have western optics on their home-grown rifles. Russia on the other hand seems to have personnel...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Yet another informative video from the Weapon Detective on You Tube discussing the Boxer, its history together with current and possible future developments. Points like the ability to the Mission module to be changed to any other module in under an hour under field conditions emphasises the benefit...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

For me, if we want a greater density as well as increased numbers of Sea Ceptor on our Escorts, then the ExLS system in both its stand alone and Mk41 VLS insert could be seen as the way forward. The Mk41 VLS in theory gives our vessels greater flexibility in the future whilst the stand alone version...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Short video, discussing the development of the Boxer Overwatch and Boxer mortar Carrier. With the latter it is interesting that the same module can have either a 81mm or a 120mm Mortar installed, to which it appears an automatic aiming system is attached. I really hope the MoD pull its figure out an...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

So the booster section of CAMM-ER has a greater diameter then CAMM. Is the difference sufficient to stop CAMM-ER being quad packed then?

Re: The war in Ukraine

As the Ukrainians push the Russian south towards Kherson, they are trapped except for a number of lash up ferries, on the wrong side of a major river. The Ukranian do seem to be aware of the risk of overextending themselves as well, moving support and logistics units up behind there advancing forces...

Re: Australian Defence Force

When I think about it and it doesn't hurt when doing so, I like both platforms Bushmaster and Hwakei. I wonder if we could pay back Australia for choosing the Hunter Class, as well as fortifying our recent agreement with Australia and the US by purchasing both platforms as a quick solution to our dy...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Military Aviation is our strongest area for defence exports by quite a Margine, and we have had quite some success in partnership with other European Countries with both Tornado and Typhoon. Team Tempest is the nearest thing we have to a national defence programme that we have given the number of co...

Re: Multi Role Vehicle – Protected - MRV(P)

Developing a family of AFVs these days seems to be reliant on having a requirement existing and in place from your own Military. Few countries have a home-grown Manufacturer of AFVs that can afford to develop AFVs based on the possible future needs of another country, even France is struggling to do...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

With the T-31 could we go down the well-trodden route of FFBNW for additional capabilities? Build the first two or three as per the current design and amend the last two so that they are fully plumbed in for additional Sea Ceptor, the Interim AShM and maybe replacing one of the 40mm with a Phalanx o...

Re: The war in Ukraine

Fascinating video, in the Ukrainian's own words, as to how they were able to attack and destroy a number of Russian strong points. I was especially interested how the Tank unit Commander did not actually accompany his unit but used Quad-copter UAVs to direct them in real time. https://www.youtube.co...

Re: Australian Defence Force

Surprised at the choice of .300 Blackout for the round to be used with the Sig Sauer MCX. Do any other countries use this calibre in their main line military as against SF? Regardless an impressive selection of weapons chosen.

Re: Royal Navy Gunnery Discussion

Maybe remove the forward gun installation on the T-45 entirely and add two or three eight cell Mk41 VLS for say TLAMs, or two or three eight cell Sylver VLS to increase the number of Aster-30 carried.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

I agree Boxer is expensive, but it is the only platform on order that could be used to replace platforms like the Sultan and Bulldog is the roles they currently hold. Other programmes like the MRV(P) which could have provided cheaper alternatives have withered through lack of progress and/or interes...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Well Considering the Armoured Regiment currently use the Sultan as a Command platform at the appropriate levels, boxer as it is on order would be an obvious choice for that role and given the number of command variants on order this has probably already been decided. Sultan and Bulldog have massive...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Saying that the CVT(T) and FV432 platforms in service with Armoured and Armoured Infantry units will need the greater protection offered by Boxer, as will some support units such as Artillery. Why? They don't currently offer such protection. What do you expect to change? If indeed that is your posi...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Well, we do or did have the MRV(P) programme, whose phase two 4x4 or 6x6 platform whould be ideal for replacing the AFVs in some of the supporting roles that cannot justify being replaced by Boxer. Saying that the CVT(T) and FV432 platforms in service with Armoured and Armoured Infantry units will n...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

What is useful is the clearer understanding of the Boxer Mortar variant, showing a much more conventional installation allowing the Mortar to be fired from the platform. Being able to use the same mountings for either a 81mm or 120mm Mortar is also very useful as is ease of installation/removal mean...

Re: Australian Defence Force

I personally see a more cautious programme moving forwards. The first part is the embedding of RAN personnel on board USN and RN SSNs. I then see Australia leasing a Los Angelese class, but it would operate with a number of USN personnel still on board and as part of the SUBPAC. Things would then pr...
