Why does the UK need to do littoral ASW? Surely everything that needs doing can be done from a CVF a few hundred miles offshore.
By the way, the person who said the RN doesn't have UAV's and isn't interested in them, is talking nonsense.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate
First candidates for CEC or analogous function would be carriers & T45's. T31s would be about 20th on the list.R686 wrote:Will a future RN have CEC, T26 will be able to cue the shot for T31, just a thought
No plans to get it either.

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate
The UK wouldn't directly try to intervene in a military coupe in Nigeria. So you could substitute the Battlestar Galactica for a T31. It's still not going to happen. UK Intervention in Sierra Leonne in 2000 enabled us to put boots on the ground, with naval support (which included Ocean and Illustio...

So matching you r#1 ally, the one country you are most likely to go to war with, is a worse option than matching your #1 likely enemies???? Current plan is to place contracts in 2020. So four years to figure out who to design & build. Who knows when the ships will actually start building.
Seems a tad slow.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
Dispersion is nothing new and cannot be eliminated. The requirement is 5 milliradians, 80% circle. A-10 levels of accuracy, on a faster, nimbler firing platform. That still means that the rounds get spread on several meters... and that up to 20% of the rounds go even further out of target. The gun ...

Seeing that we don't know what's included in the contract it's a bit daft to get excited about the cost. But if I was a Brit I'd be really upset by the Baldwin woman claiming that the UK defense budget is increasing when it's been going downhill for years. That's a bare faced, blatant lie. Every yea...

To state the obvious, a growing percentage of world trade is now based in SE/E Asia with a large proportion passing through the Straits of Malacca. This has a direct link to the UK economy. At the same time there is a growing instability in the region and increasing militarisation - leading to a ce...
