Re: The future form of the Army
Well of course, but the point being you would withdraw and disengage if a light brigade came across such a force and attempt to fight on your ground not push fwd. Anti tank missiles gives them a limited capability against tanks but if that’s what your expecting or likely to face you send the heavy ...

Re: The future form of the Army
Would 30mm cannon and or anti tank missiles not be sufficient for the light brigade they’re not expected to be going toe to toe with heavy armour in open country. Who gets a say in what or where an army has to fight? I’m not following your point The enemy gets a say in any engagement, so you cannot...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
This will bring a flood of comments https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/14651188/navys-hms-queen-elizabeth-leak/ THE Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier has sprung a leak — just weeks before she sets off on her maiden round-the-world voyage. Thousands of gallons of salt water flooded the 65,000-ton HMS Queen...

Re: South Korea
There is significant cross over technology between military and civil aviation. As in many other fields as well. And as you pick up scale, you can do things "on the side". The EU abdicated its negotiation powers for China to be let into the WTO (the US did the talking) - all of the condit...

Re: South Korea
We as a country have a significantly bigger aerospace expertise base and yet we keep being told we can’t do it. That is true, but there is a different focus for that (expanding) base in S. Korea Military- directed R&D in bns to the comma and millions to the decimal point, in 2017 United States$...

Re: South Korea
South Korea have taken a leaf out of Sweden’s book with both the KUH helicopter and the KF fighter. Buy in the sub systems you need get the expertise were you need it but design and integrate the overall product. Well done to them. We as a country have a significantly bigger aerospace expertise base...

Re: Only heavy and light; where did Medium disappear to? Or did we get Medium-heavy and Light-medium
It’s a gd question about medium. The mantra for its need over the last 20 years has been around its deployability advantage. I guess though when the vehicles you ordered for it are now all touching the scales at around 40 tonnes you can only describe them as heavy. The strike concept I’ve read remai...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
What baffles me is that as the 4 bns are (initially) drawn from the Special Inf. bns, somehow 5 x 350 transforms into 4 x 200 ... was the forming of the 5 bns still only in process, or will there be training teams housed also in other brigades? It is becoming a tad clearer now: "The new Specia...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
They may or may not be, we just don't know what the new Ranger Regiment will be, how it will operate and be equipped. We know the Specialist Infantry Group is going to provide the manpower and that it may retain the latter's role to train the militaries of allied nations, but very little beyond tha...

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)
But the way I read it about the rangers was they are really about training and operating with local forces in a upstream conflict prevention type role. Didn’t really seeing them operating with air mobile brigade. So are the Rangers not sitting somewhere between the SF and Paras. For me we need to s...
