Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
With Ajax as production has barely started we do have the option to both reduce the quantity and the make up of the fleet to be procured, and their capabilities. Define "barely started". Because I think anyone with any knowledge of the programme would agree that's about 12 months out of d...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
389 Jaguars are being purchased, now, in a fixed price contract of 1 million eur each including R&D. I’m not sure what you mean by full fighting trim. Has the same gun as Ajax and is physically entering service now. Because you never know what is in scope of Government Furnished Equipment. We k...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
Seems quite sensor 'rich' whereas protection levels are a :?: - at least to me. This is via Shephardmedia from Eurosatory 2018: " Owing to its use as a reconnaissance platform [ which is not the only role] by the French Army, the vehicle uses an extensive range of sighting systems that include...

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicle Variants (British Army)
For less than 580 million France are replacing their entire recce fleet with a brand new all French vehicle (Jaguar). But are they comparable to the AJAX design? (and only 300, not 589). This article is all over the place, but suggests no electro-optic sight for the Gunner or Driver. Is it an unman...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
The UK would be the only. The ONLY country in the world suddenly deciding that tanks are obsolete and too heavy and shouldn't be used. Look atthe US, Russia, China, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Autralia, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Canada, India,...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
The question then should be, how many nations have 3rd gen and 4th gen tanks. That's by no means an exclusive club, but it's certainly not a global constant. Please help me out, why is this the question, I don't get it? Because a country's tank count/credibility can be grossly inflated by 2nd gen t...

Is the "close" aspect a consideration that the system could be used in an FR(O) role?

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
So no conflicts that have actually seen in armour versus armour contacts? Both Ukraine and Syria/Iraq have seen armour conflict occurring. There was some particularly notable ones from near Donbass where people were analysing the effect of APFSDS on the T-72s being used. The point was "What wa...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
So no conflicts that have actually seen in armour versus armour contacts? Maybe not, but how is that relevant? Then none of those are good examples of todays conflicts of either repelling a contemporary heavily armoured brigade or advancing on an opposition force with tanks. All those conflicts are...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
It is strange to question the role of tanks when there are multilpe active warzones in the world right now proving the current need for them. Out of interest, which active warzones are currently seeing active use of tanks? Syria is the obvious one. Yemen another. Ukraine has quieted down a bit of l...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
I think the only way that this could possibly be justified is by concentrating all the money saved by not going ahead with C2 and Warrior upgrades (if there is anything left after budget cuts) on Ajax and Boxer, to implement the missing large gun and mortar variants (plus CTA40 turret for Boxer). T...

Re: Foxhound Protected Vehicle
I think the stealth aspect is a bit overplayed, but perhaps at low speed a relatively small battery (2-3kWh) would allow you creep the last mile if needed.
A normal car does 2.5-4 miles per kWh at road speeds. And EV batteries are generally 40kWh plus.

Re: Foxhound Protected Vehicle
The environmental side is limited to say the least, unless you're planning to have a rather large battery for regenerative braking (which is no bad thing on a vehicle that heavy). However, it also provides improved drive characteristics by improving the torque performance. Not to mention you replace...

There was a link to an article posted on here that mentioned that the threat level the MRV(P) platforms were intended to be able to cope with was now greater than when the programme was started. Quite rightly, the Army are worried about being wiped out by Russian Artillery before they are anywhere ...

Replacement battery packs for Electric Cars when they existing ones deteriorate are not covered under warranty in most cases.
