Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I liked it. Not aimed at the converted, Trying to be a modern 'Sailor'. A few new bits in there such as the Engine room flood and seeing the blades being lowered into the water were interesting.

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
I thought the original report mentioned 'held at such range'? So I presume this was referring to the range at which Astute was able to counter the New Mexicos manoeuvres? Of course i could be totally wrong!

Re: Trafalgar Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
It's a real problem, because as you pointed out, there just isn't the capacity to replace Astute on time let alone build another 5 To give us 12 without the Batch 1's being spent. Could Batch 1 be refuelled??

Re: Trafalgar Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
No. Not at all, I was just agreeing that two class of 6 boats would be logical. As the idea is the follow on class is Evolution rather than Revolution. So the follow on to Astute would in effect be a class of 5 batch 2 Astute, with the next class (6) being a complete new design and so on.

Sub building set to go the way of Aircraft building and future procurement. Buy from Uncle Sam! Not suggesting that is the right thing to do, as having the 'best' is not always the point of building yourself. You need to be better than any possible realistic enemy. If we don't start getting serious ...

T45 Should have been named after Counties, T26 Cities and T31e names currently owned by T45! I think the naming system is about 40 yrs out of date.

Great footage of QE with Tidespring over on that Thread. Is it just me or does the Anchor recess look open to local slamming? If you watch the video, it's not the roughest of sea states yet those Anchor nests get very wet! Also she looks far more stable than Tidespring, as you would expect being the...

It would be interesting to know the proposed displacement of Leander proposal. I would imagine in the order of 3500t. Not long ago we were being told it was practically impossible to achieve that fit on that tonnage. Sounds good if possible.

If anything that video shoes the need for Sea spear. A couple of Remote/Autonomous small boats have a chance of getting close enough to cause a problem. That remotely operated boat was still going after several attempts to stop it.

Doesn't this highlight the need for a proper reserve force? Older yet still useful ships can be found all over the world. For what little we get back when we sell them we should surely keep 6 or so. I understand all the down sides, cost, maintaining additional 'obsolete' weapon systems etc, but to h...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Thanks for that. I'm sure I read somewhere something about F35B being able to start engine in the hangar just prior to going up to flight deck. I take it there would be little point in doing that if your jet wasn't fuelled and armed as it left the hangar deck, so surely weapons would have to be deli...

Re: Albion Class Amphibious Assault Ships (LPD) (RN)
I think we have been played. All this talk of selling the Albions, just a way of Management speak to get you to come up with the solution they wanted in the first place, reducing the escort fleet! Very very predictable and very very Sad!

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
Your missing my point. We only have 6 T45. The original plan was to have 12, at the time CVF became more than a Fantasy herself. I know they are tasked with protecting the carriers, but as they now represent nearly a 3rd of our Entire surface D/F fleet, a few more capable ships wouldn't be a bad thi...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
As it's fantasy fleet, I think a dedicated Escort would be useful other than T45. T45 was meant to replace T42 on a one to one basis. We were only given 6. Regardless of how many magnitude the T45 is better than T42, we only have 6 of them. Tying them up with CVF Escort duties would have been fine i...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]
This may have already been in someone's Fantasy fleet, so apologies if I'm dredging up old stuff, as I haven't really been following this one. I would have 2 T45 based Cruisers. Stretched to incorporate an additional VLS, additional bunkerage and mission bays, with a Flight deck capable of recoverin...

As pointed out before, the service will give her a Nick Name, but as she is named after Queen Elizabeth 1st, and she was known at the time as Good Queen Bess, my 'vote' would be 'Big Bess'

I think 'Hull' would be a terrible name for a warship. May as well call it HMS Superstructure. No disrespect to the City with the unfortunate name Hull.

As far as a Hangar goes, that funnel looks huge! I'm sure not all that space is taken up with intake and exhaust pipes? Plenty of scope for a mid life or earlier fixed Hangar incorporating a redesign of the funnel?
