Re: Boeing Chinook (RAF)

"According to UK MoD data the RAF has a current fleet of 59 Chinook HC5/HC6/HC6A helicopters, of which 39 were in service as at 1 April 2023." So as of say 2028, how many will we have in the active fleet? Do these new ones replace old one? https://twitter.com/Gabriel64869839/status/176857...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

The UK does that need a large army to defend itself. UK still have NATO obligations to met. UK also could have engagement outside NATO North or Eastern flank. Both Gulf Wars and Falklands were done outside NATO engagements and there is no guaranties there might be some in the feature. UK could hard...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

Can the Rangers fit into 16AAB? Why would anyone do that? They have different roles. Can the Gurkhas scale up to a fully formed Brigade if the headcount needed to rise? If there is a need, 3rd Battalion could probably be reformed in some way (It was already in process of reforming as assistance bat...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

If we really needed to yes we would in the same way we sent 90% of the FRS1 fleet to the Falklands Just 90%? Basically any air frame that was capable flying, plus every newly built one was sent, 2 even lacking radar and there was negotiations with India to lease them from their Harriers. Not sure t...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion

I'll be surprised if they all go out of service by then. Well Warrior still might be there after 2030, considering that the last of 623 Boxers are expected to be delivered only by 2032, and there is still not enough infantry version of it to equip all 5 battalions. And I would not be surprised if t...

Just out of sheer curiosity, if there were to be enough 'extra' F35's to justify it, which previous but currently non-active airfield is still close enough to being operational to be worth reactivating? Any of them? Maybe none of them? (Though I guess that if Trump does win a second term then the f...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

From all news I could find Spain is not going for F-35, but will stick with EFs until NGF arrive. Not sure what they are going to do with their Harriers, as realistically F-35B is the only option for replacement. Unless of course Spain decide to retire fixed wing aircraft from the Navy and go with s...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

We didn’t sail around with dozens of jets on carriers after the Falklands either Yes, but not because it was a the RN choice, isn't it, as new carriers were to small to have larger air group. But that was a minimum what they could get from government at that time, but not what they actually wanted.

If you had 4 smaller ships each with a crew around 450 you have roughly the same as that being consumed by the 2 we currently have. 3 smaller ships maybe ... 4 no chance. Cavour has crew of 486, compared to 679 of QE class (no counting air group personal), which means difference is less than 200. S...

Given that the parent vehicle is an IFV (OK, arguably TWO IFVs), was thought given to replacing Warrior with Ajax in the IFV role? Considering there is no active or announced program for new IFV, I doubt there is much serious thoughts given to any vehicle that could fill that role. And while Ajax w...

I think Abrams X was displayed with a fully hemispherical APS. Not really, it is presented with Trophy APS. Technically, T-14 Armata has vertical launching APS, together with horizontal one, but not sure if it is working (as there is no any public presentation of it) and, if it is, how effective it...
