Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Lets look at some real world facts about mix of Tiers of ships in various navies: I agree there are a few tiers in these navies, but we shall compare it with that of RN's. For me, RN has tier-1: T45, T26 tier-2: T31 tier-3: River B2s etc If I shall "name" the assets on these tiers USN tie...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

…at this stage, no additional money is allocated… Which raises the question; do RN actually have a requirement for a upper Tier 2 Frigate? If so, what for? Is the requirement actually for 5x Patrol Frigates to replace the RB2’s and 5x LRG escorts? If so that can be achieved in a number of ways. If ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Well we should have had more than 8 T26s, but some think cheap GPs was the way to go instead, that mistake has already been made. You dismissively state "some"..... You constantly make snide remarks against T31 as if stating clear and demonstrative fact, as opposed to merely your very bia...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

@Poiuytrewq I agree that it warrants serious consideration. We need to stop designing small runs of different craft and adopt more the USN Flight 0/1/2/3 etc philosophy of phased changes to designs to progress the designs over time whilst keeping much of design same / similar so that construction sh...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I am confused by your reply. Probabley my fault for explaining badly as usual. In short I am suggesting the maximisation of the T26 hull with the expanded dimensions that the Hunter program has unlocked. The big unknown is how many VLS cells RN actually require on the T83. How many Strike length Mk...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I hope Type 83 is based on the T26 hull platform with the mission module replaced with missile module. It's a compromise sure, but it's an incremental development of the T26 platform, using as much as possible of the T26 and most importantly, an affordable route to the T83, without letting the budg...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Is that confirmed? If Westminster goes, the ASW skills and equipment should be transferred to one of the upgraded GP variants. Keeping 8 sub hunting frigates going should be essential, and if it means cannibalising the others then so be it! It's a sad state when 8 frigates sounds ambitious... https...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

The truth is fitting 32 Mk-41's will not make T-31 a C1 ship but more a high end C2 ship which… Is a target. Just build more T26s if your objective is to end up with a war fighting ship that has qualitative advantage over numerically superior forces. If the mission is ASW then 100% agree. I am hope...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

what should have happened was the C1 was the aaw and asw ship combined. This I definitely agree with and the starting point of the T83 should be the T26. This is the real opportunity to grow the size of the war fighting fleet. for cost and industrial simplification i think C2 and C3 are the same hu...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

This would allow a logical realignment of current planning. • Build 5x T31, only add Mk41 to hulls 3,4&5 • Following T31 build 5x OPV MAX • After OPV MAX, build another 5x T31 with Mk41 • Sell T31 hulls 1&2 That would keep Rosyth busy to around 2037 at which point the RB2’s could be replace...

The fwd deployed SLOC/ maritime security task is very similar to what we are doing with SNGM2 and TF151 in the gulf and the very recently announced task group in the JEF area arguably the old SNMG1which HMS Richmond is deploying too. Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

What displacement and beam would we need for XLUUV's "mothership" to be able to deploy and recover by crane in various sea states? I believe the RN's Project Cetus is 17t. Would an OPV, even the discussed 4,000t OPV Max, be able to operate a XLUUV as large as Cetus, or just smaller XLUUV's??

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

What is your intended size? Note that the image you post is for a ship with 8000t FLD (as I understand). I think you are talking something smaller, 4000t FLD or so? - If it is 8000t level size, it is not much different from Vard7 313 mod, which will be ~10000t FLD. In this case, I prefer Vard7 313m...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

RN lacks man-power for foreseeable future. RN lacked man-power for these three decades. Always less than needed. So, we shall not assume there will be more man-power in future. If yes, just think it as a bonus and start "double-crewing" the assets. - RN has 6 AAW destroyers, T45. Their PI...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

I think my personal idea of a balanced fleet would be more like 18 Carrier escorts 8 x AAW Destroyers 10 x ASW Frigates 6 General escorts 6 x GP frigates for higher-threat patrol areas, or general escort duties 10 Offshore Patrol 5 x larger Offshore Patrol Ships (outside reach of shore-based UK hel...
