Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

The point is more about the role they are being asked to do. None of us believe that the baseline T31e will have ASuW missiles nor TAS - CAMM will be very limited in numbers. So, in effect it is a long ranged patrol frigate capable of operating in lower level threat environments, with ability to op...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Not sure what would be trialed. Looks like they took an ASW helo's equipment and stuck it in a unmanned speedboat. Personally I see zero technology breakthrough here. I doubt if the speedboats could cope with North Sea conditions let alone the Atlantic and how long exactly would they take to reach ...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

My point is, trial of SeaGull for 10 years . We do not know how it will be effective. Maybe more larger drones will be must, may be not FLASH but CAPTAS-1 will be must, maybe .... All these issues will be only well-evaluated with extensive testings. If it is larger, T26 cannot carry it, and we need ...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Agree. Partly seriously, I think: RN shall, 1: Use 3 River B2s as a SeaGull test-bed, with 3 sets (6 boats) of SeaGull systems "leased" for 10 years (until 2029). Plenty of internal space (>50 men accommodation), with basic CMS. This may come as a compensation for (possible) banning of 3 T...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Can any of the suggested unmanned ASW platforms actually prosecute a contact? Would it be worth looking at an unmanned platform that can so that combined they form Hunter/Killer teams? Not sure. But, if they are doing multi-static ASW, which is the new generation default technology, they must have ...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Sorry meant Tarlac Class LPD and I am looking to get the most out of any buy and to free up the Bays plus this is Fantasy as the UK will wast another 10 years Thanks. Even though this is a fantasy thread, I bet it will cost more than 100M GBP if built in UK. The other reason I am against LPD is, be...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Not sure. It all depends on how good the Venari 95 will be equipped (armaments), how fast it is (she is fat, so 20kt is easy but 25 kt not much), as well as how shock tolerant it will be (if we follow the BMTs suggestion, it must be shock tolerant to some standard, if ever to be used for MCM). What ...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Sorry, what is Teclec class lpd? Also, since we are aiming at multi static ASW, I think some system integration cost is needed. On the other hand, we do not need LPD to deploy SeaGulls. Just put some LCVP or large RHIB-class davits on PSV, off the shelf. :D [add] for me, River B2 is a good candidate...

On shallow water ASW drones, what is the most unclear is its size . I think RN needs good operational ...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Donald/Acc I’m not sure type 26 could take something the size of seagull it’s about 40ft in length and 15 tonnes in weight. The seagull system consists of a control pod and 2 seaboats and work as a pair. The cost is about £22m. The mission bay accommodates 2 20ft-containers in a raw, so it is longe...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

Thanks Donald, I don't think we are too far apart here. A couple of small queries, - Is the modified Bay replacing Argus like for like? If so, that's all the Bays deployed for at least some of the year with duties other than Amphibious operations. -Why put the second Wave into extended readiness? W...

Re: JAPAN / 日本

I think, it happened because - E2C was first procured (years) - one day, JASDF thought they need AWACS and government approved it. - E3 production line was already shut down, and forced to go for E767. - because it was so expensive to buy, to upgrade and to operate, only 4 has been procured. (years)...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

This technology is here now we just need to embrace it. This reminds me of the conversations that we’re doing the rounds when unmanned air vehicles started to emerge. They weren’t real planes they couldn’t replace the traditional way of doing things, and we were so far behind the curve in UK it was...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

I am thinking out of the box here and living in fantasy land which is novel for me here. The hull size I am looking at is between 8000 and 9000 tonnes fully loaded. Its primary role would be the insertion and support of small company sized amphibious units, but be able to carry out other duties. Th...

Re: Fantasy T31 and Fantasy Fleet Builder [New]

With these vessels I know I am thinking outside of the box, but it is their inherent flexibility that is their strong point. Yes they can fight and actually replace the five or six Merlin HC4s for HM2s and install a number of VL-ASROC in the MK41s and you have a vessels that can form a flagship for...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

Offshore Raiding Craft level of assault boats can handle some sort of raids. If they are smaller than 11-12 m long, T26 can carry ~6 of them. Even Leander can carry 2. What happens if RM go for the CB90 in large numbers? In that scenario the UK would have very few platforms capable of deploying the...

I do not think we need new assets for raids/assaults. Offshore Raiding Craft level of assault boats can handle some sort of raids. If they are smaller than 11-12 m long, T26 can carry ~6 of them. Even Leander can carry 2. In addition, just keep one Albion as “the 3rd HVU”, with C&C. Supplemented...

A.C.C. Same source I think! It was a long time ago ......... I rounded it down to a more useful, practical and descriptive "Whole Number". This also fits in with the (expected) Eight Month Deployments. I understand it means, - 1 CV will be ready for 70% of the time = ~8 months of 1 year. ...

If the type 31s were real escorts then yes you are bang on the two carriers could work with 2 & 2 type 45/26 leaving 9 other escorts to share the the other tasks. however with the 2 type 26s held back for TAPS that only really leaves 1 type 45 & 26 operating as the other 2 will be in the re...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion

I feel you are both missing the point. Both UK carriers will be fully crewed meaning they can be deployed in rotation the limiting factors will be the escorts and the air-wing and given the importance of the carriers to NATO and other operations it can only make sense that NATO builds a carrier gro...

Intersting. Both OHPerry class and MEKO 200 class, representative of frigates in 1990s, have their bridge in similar location. Leander will join the line :D
