Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
T31 carrying two unmanned Pacific 9.5 (and one RHIB), and T26 carrying 2 RHIB and 2 ARCIMS looks just fine. Actually, if the crane remains, T31 can add a few RHIB or unmanned Pacific 9.5 on the mid deck. Also, T26 hangar can accommodate third ARCIMS, while retaining 2 RHIBs. But I think T31's boat b...

10 SeaSense USV systems will be covering 5 important ports/channels 24/7. I wouldn't believe so, at least not with as few as 10 USV's. I you look at project wilton (Navylookout source) ...Wilton is equipped with 3 boats that can carry REMUS 100 and 600 small-medium UUVs, Side-scan sonars and M500 R...

Re: Archer Class Patrol & Training Vessel (PBR) (RN)
- "a SeaClass would be a bad choice". Why? If we take off the "training cabin" from SeaClass 15, it can be virtually a larger brother of ARCIMS USV. It can be used as USVs in war time by adding the same remote control system, and do the real job elsewhere around Britain and UK's...

CAPTAS-4 compact also has their own option which simultaneously replaces CAPTAS-2 because it is the same size. I believe CAPTAS-4 Compact has the same capability as old CAPTAS-4 and as such normal CAPTAS-4 production has ended. Here it is containerised: https://youtu.be/Ve9IzYRyOfo?si=mEkkfNZ9EmRyr...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
HMS Tamar just left Auckland NZ. Comparison with RNZN OPV is interesting. Although HMS Tamar is not a ship to fight, it look more fighty than RNZN OPVs, which looks more bulky. https://youtu.be/2JMgaw7g8pM?t=13 PS.1 RN OPV being a frequent visitor to NZ is very good. Also, HMS Tamar steaming at sea ...

ULTRA 20-ft container ASW system. I think he is talking about Sea Lancer and its 2nd-Gen. As it is "single tow", it is very simple. May be not as capable as CAPTAS-4 (independent tow), but handling-system simplicity will be essential in "man-power limited" navy. For example, I t...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
HMS Tamar, now in NZ. - RNZN frigate has just test-fired 2 CAMMs. The frigates also as SeaSentor torpedo defense kits. So, yes NZ has a good commonality with RN. - I really hope HMS Tamar crew take a visit of HMNZS Otago and Wellington, the two OPV now in extended readiness because of lack of crew. ...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
But OPVs also contributes to show presence. Has an impact. Of course, it is not as much as an escort. Considering the huge huge difference in resource needed to do it, this is very natural. No one is saying an OPV can have the same influence as an escort. No argument.

Diplomacy is basically broken down to how much money where does it go and what do I get in return. The law of economic warfare. Diplomacy is done by the diplomatic staff at the embassies across the world that presence is permanent where the decision makers are. If you don’t get what you want the co...

It isn't an obsession it is realty five are on order to replace the five T23 GP. The T31 isn't mediocre it provides a platform that is inherently easy to maintain, requires lower crewing and provides great range and capability cost effectively. It can scale from a more than competent light frigate ...

Soft power is a fiction. A fiction perpetuated by this government and its many shades since Blair, based on it playing nice in the media. There is economic power and there is military power. Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
What I am saying is that, OPV+ is OPV+, will not add any mass on war fighting assets. If RN want more OPV immediately, it is easy: lease RNZN Otago-class OPVs (now both are in reserve ( because of lack of crew )) for 2-3 years. We know there are a few Irish OPVs also, waiting for their crew . In sh...

More T31 "as is", is what you are saying, I felt. No corvette nor OPV+. Any warship with so-so AAW and "57mm and 40mm" guns and a helicopter hangar is very similar to T31, and introducing new design will not be justified, I think. Why are people obsessed with replacing OPVs that...

I think a 57mm and 2 40mm is over the top on a OPV I think a 57mm and 4 x 12.7mm is a good fit or 2 x 40mm and 4 x 12.7mm I would also like a naval version the Thales Rapid Ranger…. It absolutely is over the top today but what about 10 years from now? The swarms will just get bigger and more comple...

… Those Vard vessels are the basis for the US coast guard heritage class cutter we can argue if they should have camm in any UK vessels. I think this is one way of addressing the needs for MRSS. I do think MRSS shall be split in two classes, 2 larger MRSS (20,000t class) and 3-4 smaller MRSS (8000t class). The latter can be this type of "flat-top LPD with smallish well-dock". Basic parameter - Well-dock for one LCU or 4 CIC...

Re: Archer Class Patrol & Training Vessel (PBR) (RN)
The P2000 replacements do not need to be a single class, what we should consider is what would be their role in a war to support the RN. I see three: - Harbour defence - Portsmouth, Devonport and Faslane need patrol ships, also we should be ready to deploy to places like Cyprus etc as has been done...
