If a Sqn of p8 had say more people than a type 45 assigned to it would you think it ok to have a second one?

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion
Hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars were spent ensuring composite panels joins were perfect, access panels and system apatures kept to a bare minimum, flaps and slat size and configuration all set on maintaining an extremely strict planform configuration. So yes external stores of any descr...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion
The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program, formerly the Joint Advanced Strike Technology (JAST) Program, is the Department of Defense's focal point for defining affordable next generation strike aircraft weapon systems for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and our allies. The focus of the program is afford...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion
Really it's in the title what does JSF stand for. Is link 16 new to f35 or it MADL that shares data with other f35s which is having some issues at present the one you referring to. Is both CUDA and weapons bay door changes designed, funded agreed test plan integration and on the MODs order book or e...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion
No it's a strike fighter. Nor am I interested in some potiential missile the US may or may not be developing that may be integrated into f35 sometime in a decade or so. "vastly superior emission stealth", the fact you used the term stealth means thats probably from some marketing blurb som...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
With sea harrier 20 went south the final 8 arriving as attrition replacements. Remembering also that every navy harrier pilot with a licence was used and additional ones from the RAF, if you don't have people trained to fly the a/c doesn't matter how many planes you have the're sitting on the tarmac...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion
F35 is a strike fighter it is not a air superiority fighter and there is a difference. The likes of the typhoon,f22,f15,su30 onward are air superiority fighter they take lots of missiles v high and fast, with big radars. F35 is a f16 replacement which like f16 lacks missile loadout for peer high end...

Re: Typhoon
Not really acc, say your target is inKursk, Moscow, Minsk, st Petersburg etc what several thousand nm advantage does a carrier give over a NATO airfield in Germany or the like. The only way to guarantee of holding targets at risk at strategic range is with a bomber. We can go to to the f35 thread if...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
Trained combat ready pilots and engineers will determine how many a/c you can deploy to 24/7 operations and how long you wish to break the force for. This from the def sec this morning Michael Fallon: UK will have 'good look' at 2015 defence review post Brexit & fall in £ 'to see what parts need...

Re: Typhoon
A carrier in it'self has almost no relevance to what deep strike is, it's simply an alternative base of operations If you want strategic range you need a bomber and only the US have them. Deep strike is more to do with the targets your attacking and there importance to an enemy. We fly and practice ...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
If your looking to max out a single carrier e.g. 36 a/c then it should be noted that in the last 25 years only one fast jet fleet has deployed that number of a/c to the high end operations the tornado gr fleet. That number was generated on telic from a force of 7 operational sqns and around 145 a/c....

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
That bitter pill will be much worse than limiting the f35bs to 48 a/c but that has been obvious to anyone with half a brain who didn't drink the Cool aid since before the carriers were laid done. The whole set of requirements that were the basis for constructing the carriers have been detached from ...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)
With the supposed 20b black hole in current 10 year equipment funding due to the MODs inability to live within its budget, I would love to know where this money tree is for more P8s extra sensors and I guess weapons for p8, awacs upgrades, more f35s, type 31s, and the like as most are currently not ...

ACC We will have discussed this many time if you were on TD and been in rampant agreement on most things. Re: Typhoon
Well typhoon has a very capable helmet mount sight system , rafale has none. The upgraded typhoon helmet which is arguably more advanced than f35s is already in flight test. The ej200 engine is a significantly more powerful and reliable engine than the one currently on rafale which is why it's been ...

'but talking about road maps (and investment backing it), Rafale seems to have one, whereas (as I said) Eurofighters are produced in such a config that they will need an immediate upgrade'
