Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)
We HAVE leased 3 for OTU usage in the states. There was a P8 at Prestwick 2 weeks ago with no markings as well. At the same time there were 4 merlin, 2T23, and a T45 buggering about Arran. ? Mr Putin's atomic dustbin ? The biggest problem is at the moment we don't have the infrastructure to support ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Paint is the last of the Zumwalt's problems! Wonder if the have solved the travelling wave propagation in the mast which rendered the search radar useless!! That and the high probability of the dammned thing catching fire. The thermal signature will be interesting: the have had to ditch a lot of the...

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Patrol Aircraft) (RAF)
3+6+3 first airframes leased, 9 total buy! Airframe 1 has been flying in US for last 4 months with an all UK crew, 2 and 3 were shared but Mr Putin seems to have forced the issue. The problem is we dont have the ramp space support in place yet at Lossie so my best guess is Prestwick using Gannet and...

Re: Royal Navy SSK?
It's all about transients: run on the surface and you have unique wave interface noise, only a sub makes it. The diesels are noisy at speed but I guess you may lose some in the escort and auxillary propulsion noise. That said with all electric drive and raft isolation you might find this would show ...

Re: Royal Navy SSK?
Not unless you can increase it's sprint speed by 10 knots and keep it there for weeks at end. The only thing that can keep up with CBG is an SSN. That said, the only thing can interdict a CBG underwater in open ocean is an SSN, that's why if the the CV go out the so will one or even 2 Astutes. SSK a...

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
Having been on QE twice with several other members of the thread I can safely say if anything they are over engineered for safety. Multiple caisons, isolated cbrn citadels, CO2 and halon circuits, and full armour over weapons deck and fuel transfer.

AFAIK Raytheon UK wrote the ISAR GMTI algorithm due to their success in Sentinel. The original software came from a small UK company for tracking movements within the stockmarkets to look for irregularities.

Re: Boeing P-8A Poseidon (Future Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft) (RAF)
Just saw this on a blog where people are still advocating we should have persevered with the Nimrod. It's a reply to an idiot with no clue...... move on…its been dead for 5 years…and as the former RAF officer who signed off its first flight all those years ago, I.might argue with you that it was no...

Re: UK's successor submarines
http://forces.tv/42828458 The Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, wants the programme to replace our SSBN's to be managed by HM Treasury and not the Ministry Of Defence. That may not be as daft as it seems, they took over oversight of crossrail in 2013 and brought the overspend under contr...

Where once the waters of your face Spun to my screws, your dry ghost blows, The dead turns up its eye; Where once the mermen through your ice Pushed up their hair, the dry wind steers Through salt and root and roe. Where once your green knots sank their splice Into the tided cord, there goes The gre...

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
No other credible outlest have jumped on the band wagon for P8 cancellation so either someone has been fitted with a .38 implant, the press has been muzzled (not really likely no matter how much we want it), or the 'leak' is more of a wet patch. I dint think the leased airframes are more than a temp...

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
IF that article is true then no one in the appropriate acquisition team in the UK or stateside knew about it as of yesterday @ 2015. The leak is either BS, comes from the office of the minister or minister for procurement (that is verging on instant dismissal), or from the treasury. Maybe Downsizer ...

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
At the risk of stirring the maelstrom again: 3 OTU airframes leased stateside in 2016, 1 of which is 'ours already' and then 3 + 6 bought over the next 4 budgetary years from within the conveniently unallocated Boeing serials. Sources: none I would care to share, if I'm wrong I will eat a hat of the...

Daily Fail and Torygraph both report that ASRAAM is uploaded on operational Tonkas. They have been ''çleared to fire on Ruskies'' by all accounts?! Couldn't be arsed to buy either as I was out on a run but they are available online.
