Re: General UK Defence Discussion
No the Army needs to be maintained at 80+k if we have any hope of having a proper balance going forward we need to have 3 x Armoured brigades each with 3 infantry battalions 3 x Mechanised Brigades same as above 2 x Rapid response Brigades same as above 1 x Deep fires brigade We need 8 x mixed SP gu...

What we also have to remember is the Constellation class are in the same league as Type 26 both in cost and kit Think to say T26 in same league as Constellation is an exageration if you include its AAW capabilities Constellation has the larger and much more powerful and modern SPY-6(V)3 GaN radar a...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
If the will was there, you could get more firepower on the design than any current escort in Western Europe. Exactly but how much firepower does the T31 actually need? IMO the T31 needs to match the Constellation class both offensively and defensively. Effectively a half price global combat ship wi...

Yes I think so remember the Ivan Khurs only has 4 x manual 14.5 HMG and stop 2 out 3 the T-31's 40mm with 3P could start engaging targets at 8 plus Km's depending on how the attack develops there would be time to bring forward 57 & 40mm into play plus the manned 12.7mm HMG's

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
Given we know the cost of the SAAB Giraffe 3D radar we should upgrade the RB2's with this as it could open the door to fitting a simple army CAMM pallet or two. The cost in my view would be about 12 million to buy and fit these radars to the RB2's and is first thing to do before any gun upgrade Also...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
We know the cost of Brimstone is 100k a shot do we know the cost of Sea Venom Spear and sea Venom are two different weapons for different tasks Spear would be for swam attacks and if in POD's shore based area defence and Sea Venom is for taking out corvettes and the like And why is the army fucking ...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
We could go with say a buy of 8 x Giraffe X1 Radar 5 for the RB2's and 3 on POD's 8 x CAMM POD's which could be used by the RB2's , LPD's , LSV's ,LSD's and Shore based the last three using a radar and CAMM POD together 8 x Spear POD's same as above 6 x CAC POD's 8 x UAV POD's 4 x ASW POD's This all...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
2 x RB2's fitted a 3D radar and 40mm and carrying CAMM & Jackal POD's plus a unmanned MCM unit would be very useful
As for Type 31 if it just had 32 Mk-41 cells it could still carry
32 x CAMM
96 x VL Spear 3
16 x NSM
2 x Wildcats
2 x Jackal drones
Which would still be a handful

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
If the B2's are upgraded with a Giraffe 3D radar, 40mm and 4 x 12.7mm they will only need 1 or 2 more crew for there day to day duties and if we can get POD's running with CAMM and Spear they can be re-rolled quickly to support other tasks like RFA escorts or supporting the Gulf based Escort if POD...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
Shore based fire support we know that NEMO comes in a container if we can get CAMM , Spear and Giraffe X1 in to POD's it could allow better defence of any small port or beach head with NEMO & Spear giving fire support out to 60km and CAMM giving local area AA

Right now for now we know the B1's are staying until 2028 we need to make the most of the B2's and upgrade them with a 3D radar and 40mm gun we then need to push POD's

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
As said above you need to clear what is being ordered this contract is more like the 250 million contact for T-31 i.e Babcocks got a 1.25 billion pound contract to build 5 T-31 = 250 million each £2Bn is the program cost. We can see many independent contracts directly by MOD to, at least, MBDA and ...

in the case of a Type 31 or RB2 in another container type 31 has space for 4 TEU under the flight deck and the RB2 just line two container down the centre of the flight deck still enough room to launch and recover a Puma or the new French UAV

Re: Ireland's air policing security failure and how the British system keeps their skies safe
The IAC are now getting new C-295 MPA's to replace there C235's maybe a better bet as far as a simple fast jet goes could be FA-50 lets face it they would take a handover from Tiffs and then hand back over to Tiffs they could get 12 for say 500 million Euro

12 uk F35 & 12 us marine atleast.... pow this time ????? Surely by 2025 the target must 24x UK F35s? That would be quite a sight if it could be done. What is the plan for CSG2024? For me what would be great would be 10 x FAA , 10 x RAF and 10 x USMC making 30 jets on POW lets push the boat out ...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
I would argue for 22 throughly credible AAW,ASW and GP escorts with the gaps filled by highly cost effective OPVs. Well - 24 escorts for me (and I'm still not certain whether it would be better to have 9 x T26, 9 x T31 & 6 x T83, or 8 of each), but otherwise that sounds about right. The T32 &qu...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
T31 programme cost: £400m+ USN 4th constellation contract: £422m. Considering that USN has x5 more to order, the well equipped constellation class will probably eventually be very close price wise to T31. Very different but this is still notable. also, In typical fashion, T31 is stated to have a ~1...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]
Went it comes to what to put in all these cells the main one for me is Spear. Spear 2 ( Brimstone) cost 100K and has a range of 60 km's if we could make it VL with soft launch and a bigger motor having 32 of these would really help the escort side of things along with anything within 40km's of the s...
