Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

It really is interesting how much more accommodating the marines are of the F-35 compared to the navy. Although I guess that's what you get when the C variant has the most delays. Beyond that, the navy has an up to date aircraft SH compared to the airforce which mainstay is still the f-15 and f-16. ...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

So the USMC will be directly and indirectly related to the QEC's operations so I thought it might be a good idea to post their aviation plans. http://www.aviation.marines.mil/Portals/11/2017%20MARINE%20AVIATIOIN%20PLAN.pdf separately from a blog. >Remarkably, the USMC has published plans for these p...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

Research and development costs for the F-35 will total 100 billion by the end of it. That's after previously building 3 stealth aircraft over 4 decades (F-117, B-2, and F-22), borrowing a heavily from the F-22 technology, and separately spending tens of billions on sensor fusion technology. I wish F...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

I hope I am wrong, but is this one along the F-35 classic, ie. counting values w/o including the engine in the total? "industrial milestone passed for the F-35 - with the 318th rear fuselage section produced at Samlesbury rolled off the production. This represents just 10% of the final global ...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

The article stated "Foreign Military Sales" That would be non U.S. which is a shame as the finances from 366 aircraft would be good. Just have to hope that those foreign johnnies start bulk buying... The foreign sales for the F-35 which is undefeated in procurement competitions would be t...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)

So I guess the treasury gets quite a kickback from this program. I always thought the economics of the Tier1 partnership were hugely understated by the Govt/MoD. Assuming the USA go ahead with the planned numbers (USAF: 1623 F35A, USN: 480 F-35C, USMC: 340 F-35B) that is a total buy of 2443 (mind b...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion

UK absolutely needs a typhoon replacement project independent from the USA imo. Be it with ger/fra or Japan.
