Re: French Armed Forces
I have no clue even a decade apart would be good for them to spread the massive cost How massive is that, exactly? Or at least the ballpark? :?: Allowing for cost overruns it could be ….your guess is as good as mine, ford class cost more than projected, IAC 1, QEC so who knows maybe 50% more ? maybe...

Re: French Armed Forces
I once felt we made the wrong choice on nuclear propulsion but all evidence I've seen since suggests we made the right judgement call. Especially as our own next gen reactor was still decades off. France obviously has a far better developed and broader capability in this area but it does seem a bit...

Re: French Armed Forces
Im thinking that the French would of learned the lessons of having only 1 carrier, (also consider the one up man ship with the RN, they will be the biggest naval power in the EU along with that prestige ) so as said they will need a boost in spending in the long term, the first one due in 2038, so a...

How long were the T23 susposed to be in service
Can see the T45 in service well into the 40's, what with the engine upgrades aswell, hopefully they will get the mk 41 by then
But if the RN is feeling flush ….

Re: Navy Command to 2030
I would hope that in the future the RN will get more... When the manned minehunters decommission as well then the crew numbers could be transferred to the new T32 + as said newer ships will require less crew, I also think when the Albion replacements come along they will be less crew intense, it's a...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
Loyal wingman as I understand takes off a conventional runway, the Queen Elizabeth aircraft carriers with their ramps would likely require something very different Take off is relatively easy to solve, the candidates are small airframes. A rocket assisted ramp or a large rubber band would do. It's l...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
Was hoping with the support for "Global Britain" the powers that be, may support routine deployments of 24 (UK) x F35 on the QEC deployments, hence using them hard & buying a few more regularly to replace the hardest used/early ones, but as you say if they do not commit to the carrier ...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)
I’m wondering if a deal has been done to cap the F35b to match CEPP requirements only, ensuring all a/c will be dedicated to the carriers, with the promise of future Tempest jam to the RAF. TBH, that would be a bigger win for the RN/FAA than give or take a few airframes. I...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Does that mean the order for second batch of T26 could be very close to be announced ? along with the FSS order ? maybe after the review is published new year, especially as the building of warships for commercial reasons is being touted ?

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Great discussion today, taken me ages to read through which is good, Glad the FSS is now a goer :D As been said, probably not a lot of dosh for new suff, but atleast the black hole should get lighter... Would it be possible to speed up the build of the T26 ( now money is a bit more certain ) say 1 p...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
500m Euro per ship, just seems a bit expensive compared to what we are paying, I know we are repurposing some equipment but I assume the lower overheads in Greece would help drive the costs down.
Would that also include the costs to set up the production line in Greece & support costs ? ...

I would really love to know how much money has been wasted since 2010 on all the the decisions to "save" money in the short term..... or maybe I wouldn't :lolno: Probably wouldn't seem so bad, but it always seems like out of service dates always apear to be extended or capabilitys gapped :...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Would be so good to see more missiles on the T45 & a dragon fire type system initialy as a supplement to CIWS I could see the T26 getting dragon fire aswell ( & maybe ExLS ) at a refit when the tech gets better, getting them in the water is probably a higher priority atm, Still think they wi...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I do like the look of the planned Italian ships but will they be much better than the FREMMs? a good statement though !!! If a little money was there, rather than put more CAMM on the T26's ( I can defo see the benefit of more from the Exls launchers) I would put more on the T31's or even some on th...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
Part of me does think that - if there is no extra weapons coming to the fleet from the GFE on T31 - it would be more optimum to reduce the MK41 loadout on the T26 to 8 cells, leaving each of the 5 T31 with 24 cells a piece. Space for CAMM and strike missiles a plenty - on a platform that won't get ...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
The promotion listed a top speed of 25 knots I seem to recall it was approaching 30 on trials They're not allowed to state the top speed. 25 knots is the contractual minimum top speed, at end of life (50 years) with worn machinery, dirty hull and all growth margin used up. QE did hit over 29 knots ...

Did they postpone the announcement about the next carrier(s) or did I miss it ? so looking forward to seeing what they come up with carrier wise, but obviously with this pandemic so many things are getting put on the back burner
