Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
I'm hearing that Type 26s have ballooned to 'well north of £1 billion"....   Well maybe if the spec has slipped to include Sampson & S1850, S2097 + Good Hull Mounted Sonar, 64 Mk.41 Strike length cells+ 48 Camm/Camm-ER, 5", 2xPhalanx, 2xSigma DS30+LMM/Starstreak ...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship
Would be good for UK business, but not for overstretched defence budget, now maybe with the cost difference from cheaper foreign build covered by Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy for example then go for it.

More trouble than they're worth, will want full tech transfer and the designer to accept full responsibility for build even though India will want to build themselves.

Hmm, maybe good job I'm not in charge of procurement (Maybe if I was in charge of MOD budget at Treasury, things would be a lot easier!)

Of course European industries are, they want the sole rights to build vessels for the entirety of Europe, keep their order books nice and full!

Re: UK's Future T26 Frigate.
So in deep sea asw, yes maybe not so useful, but that the hell happens in the littorals? What about at a choke point, or a sneaky barsteward waiting ahead of the amphibs, no helicopter is available 24/7 or in adverse weather. It seems a bloody risk in all but ideal situations. Maybe of we had 2 or 3...

Yes, I am. Though I don't really post. After the British forces I find the Italian the most interesting and like quite a lot of what I see.. Just hope it gets funded (same problem Britain has!) PPA with full size torpedo tubes could give a hostile ssk a very nasty surprise, and maybe the trieste cla...

Re: European Union Referendum - In or Out?
Maybe a reset would work. I voted undecided as I would like to see the result of the negotiations, but as it looks like we will be voting for real before we get the deal finalised, I think the only option for me is to vote out! I do not want to see this country (including Scotland) ruled by unelecte...

Well if the new tide class rfa's can do 26 knots that sounds like a good benchmark to me.

Unfortunately so, until once again it bites them/us the backside again, or they think they can buy votes with defence (will likely never happen )arfah wrote:Alas, HM Armed Forces have to make do with what they have.andrew98 wrote:Budgeting for the whole Armed Forces should be increased!
