3 I guess most of the time(?), if 1 is to replace Clyde and one is to spend much of the time in the Caribbean, but then we also have the 3 Scottish FPA vessels, the boarder force cutters (5 I think?) and the extra 8 RHIBs they have apparently ordered....is this enough? Surely if funding permits, ret...

Hamilton is a nasty piece of work. Whilst Wolfe was in hospital yesterday, before news broke that his condition was no longer considered serious, Hamilton was on the TV doing interviews asserting that it was Wolfe's fault. This was despite the fact that he was not at the meeting to witness it. The H...

Fair points. Still, I don't think we will see another election until 2020 Personally, I've tended to think that an early election is likely if one of the legal challenges to the government using prerogative powers to trigger article 50 is successful. In those circumstances I think that it's unlikel...

And it's not Brexit in March, it's article 50 in March. Brexit will be sometime thereafter, but before the 2019 European elections.

They don't have the luxury of being able to call a snap election any longer, no matter how tempting it may be for them with Corbyn's current polling. The Fixed Term Parliament act means they have to get support from something like 2/3rds of MPs (IIRC) - so would need help from other parties to make ...

TAPS is a unit held at high readiness to support anti submarine operations, particularly in support of the deterrent. To be simple is there to chase away any snooping Russian subs. In my ignorance I assumed there was a TAPS unit deployed pretty much 24/7 365 days per year. Otherwise, when it is dep...

Stupid policy. But apparently popular with the electorate: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/foreign-workers-list-poll-yougov-amber-rudd-plans-immigration-a7348821.html Favoured by voters of all parties, including the Lib Dems (surprisingly), with the exception of the SNP which are split...

Re: BAE Systems plc
Interesting stuff. Though I suppose most of their stocks would be compatible with the F18? According to several sources the Belgians are after 34 new generation fighters. Which would seem to rule out like for like replacements with new F16s. Would be a cracking result if BAE could pull it off. Accor...

Re: BAE Systems plc
I didn't realise that they had about 60 fighters they are looking to replace. Could be a substantial order then. However, the BAE 12 page glossary doesn't convince me that there is enough in it, economically, for Belgium to justify paying for typhoons. Surely they'd go for something cheaper like new...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
The Venator is still very much a compromise, and it might just end up being an acceptable one. What would be the compromise compared to the GP T23? If the T31s are to get much of the kit cross decked from the upgraded T23, and were top spec Venator as per the new specs released today, would the mai...

Also noticed they are on a PR push with typhoons for Belgium. Hope they can seal the deal and keep the production lines going. Didn't see that. Do you think it is likely? Would only be a dozen or so I guess. Would they go with the UK build - or perhaps one of the other partners given the whole EU/B...

Re: Type 31 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]
This seems to be top end in terms of spec, and thus one would imagine cost, so if this is the T31 I doubt we will see 8 of them. More likely to see 5 reduced to 3 even(?). Or, if numbers did increase to 6-8 the T26 could be susceptible to reductions in number. I'd bet that we would only see >5 if we...
