Re: Typhoon
Each country is responsible for supplying parts for every aircraft, for example BAE supply the canards for every Typhoon (and loads more). There are 4 final assembly lines, one for each of the partner countries, that will handle its own aircraft, and any export sales that country secures. Any addit...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
If the Type 26 after maturity production comes out to 1 billion USD a frigate. I could see it. Block 3 Burkes will basically be 2 billion. Burkes also aren't the greatest ASW platform and are missing the mission bay and enormous helo deck. They are also, by RN standards, overmanned. Even the USN wo...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
1 billion pounds a ship is basically a burke destroyer. US$1.7 billion for a Type 23. US$1.843 for a Burke. Although given the UK are paying heavily for the R&D in the cost of their ships, it could potentially be far lower for a foreign customer that does not have to pay to design and develop t...

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
would be complete bonkers if UK went from a total disaster export history naval wise to USA, CAD and AUS all using type 26's.
However I doubt the type 26 wins the us competition.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
66 F-35B's for the navy, the rest A's for the airforce? would 5 squadrons be enough to operate 2 carriers in emergencies? probably would need USMC help, but that's nothing new. sadly i'm accepting this split buy as fact now. ugh, crunched the numbers and factoring in training, it's probably not enou...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
just curious, if the UK went with the C variant and catapults wouldn't there have had to be a split buy anyways? Make's no sense to operate C's from land.

P-8 development went remarkably on schedule and under budget.
So did Virginia class subs iirc.

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
A commitment, if broken would piss off a great deal of US politicians who lost F-35 work/jobs in their states to the UK. I cant see why, the UK signed up to be a tier 1 partner, in this. Many of the UK sub assemblies are actually built by BAE Systems in the US, and also the Majority of the Lift fan...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
There's no "plan" to buy 138 and there never has been. What exists is a commitment to the USA to buy 138 over the life of the program. A commitment, if broken would piss off a great deal of US politicians who lost F-35 work/jobs in their states to the UK. Would piss off all the internatio...

Re: F-35B Lightning II (RN & RAF)
it was pretty much set in stone after the pound dropped.
An interesting idea would be give all 48 F-35B's to the navy and the rest procure A's.

Re: Type 26 Frigate (City Class) (RN) [News Only]
There is space on the UK T-26 for canister launched ASM. Could you point to where you heard this. As far as I am aware the t26 is VLS only for ASM. Would love to be proven wrong. I hope Australia and Canada pick the type 26, it would be a big boom for the UK ship building industry that has had a ho...

UK jump on board please.
Although I doubt there's money to procure the fighter, the expertise BAE systems could offer would be insane. Never mind the EJ200.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft General Discussion
Germans aren't better or worse than say France/UK/Italy at serving their own interests. It's just than in the context of military procurement their interests are fundamentally different than most nations, which makes them a difficult partner in military programs.
