Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)

how practical is is for Aus to build front and UK back (with nuclear bit) and put both bits together in UK. As it would be less work per sub in UK, more subs could be produced in same time frame.

Just been reading about the new German Panther. Any thoughts on getting a production line set up here to replace Challenger?

Thought I read many moons ago that min number of Nimrods required was 12 but only 9 frames could be modified so that is how we ended with 9. I may be wrong.

It will be sold as the A330 is bigger than 767. So the will waffle something about different sizes for different roles.

Re: Integrated Review (previously SDSR 2020)

The more I read what has been released regarding the Integrated Review and the Command Paper in particular, the more it seems to simply have the right sound bites and make the right noises but has very little actual substance. In the future such Reviews should present their results in two sections,...

Joined up thinking would have ordered 737 to replace 146'S not A321 giving common fleet. It strikes me as no planning and make it up as you go along.

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Re T83. (as speculation not news so on this thread). Why does it require ASW abilities etc. These will drive up cost and size for little use or benefit (inc extra crew which are in short supply). The T26 is optimised for ASW and as can be seen from our US friends (Arleigh Burke's) the ASW bit doesn'...

AndyC I think you are being over optimistic. Most of any extra cash will go on black hole / overspend. We are unlikely to see any expansion. Of course this is just a person view. Hope I'm wrong.

Off topic, but the whole concept seems silly to me. Small, slow, underarmed vessels in a war zone in China's back yard. They will survive a few days on their on if they are lucky.
