Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Do people think the choice of armament for its Boxer APCs is driven by planned doctrine and use or simply a means of saving money? At least the modular nature of the platfrom should make any future firepower upgrade simple.

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
I am finding it harder and harder to accept that Ajax is the right platform to conduct the Army's ground recce role It is to big to be used like its predecessor the CVR(T) was and does not carry enough firepower to fight for information. Have it operate with Challenger 3s in a Cavalry role might mak...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
Couldn't one of the Army's Light BCTs be rerolled to include amphibious landings. Equipping such a unit with BVS10s in various forms and have the RM Arctic Warfare leaders train them, and we retain the ability to deploy a Brigade sized force over the beach from over the horizon as a Chinook can carr...

Re: The future form of the Army
One idea would be to base the Brigaes in 3rd (UK) Division on those of the reformed Australian Army ORBAT. HTHis would mean four Brigades each containing a Cavalry Regiment comprised of two Armoured Squadrons of eighteen Challenger 3s and two Squadrons of Ajax again of eighteen vehicles each. Next w...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
If one was to be optimistic, the fact hat few APCs have been ordered allows fututre purchases of a platform with a more heavily armed Mission Module.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

AS far as I remember we have place orders for four variants of the platform, with the APC/Infantry variants being the basis for further variants. The Defence Select Committee have bee...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Wheeled AFVs are cheaper to run and easier to train drivers for. The platforms suffer far less wear and tear from operations, and require less support when deploying and in the field. There is a case for the MRV(P) programme to be resurrected to provide additional platforms to mechanise Infantry bat...

Re: Section Infantry Weapons
s anyone know how long it took from the US adopting the AR-15 to another NATO country adopting a rifle in 5.56 as its general service weapon? Our SF will probably want to purchase a few M7s and M250s to play with sometime in the near future. They are our unofficial Small Arms tester by default.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Looking at the numbers of Boxers ordered, funded and required by the British Army, it seems they are, for want of a better phrase doubling down on the platform to replace the significant numbers of elderly AFVs still in the Army's inventory. Because of its modular nature Boxer is a good choice for t...

Re: Section Infantry Weapons
Given the time, effort and resources the US Army put into the evaluation programme that eventually selected the 6.8mm as meeting the most of their requirements, leading to the development of new Rifles and Light Machine Guns for said round, which in turn were thougly tested resulting in Sig winning ...

Re: Section Infantry Weapons
Once the M7 is firmly established in the US Army's fighting units, other Small Arms manufacturers will design and bring out their own weapons in that calibre. Companies like FN and H&K should be quick off the mark assuming they are not already developing weapons that use the new US rounds. Colt ...

Re: Section Infantry Weapons
Why indeed, it's 6.8 because that's what Uncle Sam selected, it's that simple really.... The difference isn’t enough to worry about but the 6.5 is inherently more accurate and would penetrate better with the increased sectional density. IMO the 338 Norma magnum would have been the perfect replaceme...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
We need to have an open mind regarding the numerous variants of Boxer Mission Modules that haver been or are being developed. In theory we cold adopt one or more of these and gain considerable capability mileage as a result with only a small amount of British kit required like radios. This is the co...

I am pretty sure the AS-90 saw service during the 2003 conflict in Iraq, which should prove its abilities to operate in desert conditions.

Re: Ajax Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
And of course the MoD still cannot clarify when the Ajax will be operational, or it IOC. The Army top brass got a real grilling on the subject when questioned by the Defence Select Committee. Building a platform whilst it is still undergoing development always causes problems. Both GD and BAe should...

Re: Javelin Anti-Tank Missile (British Army)
I agree with the previous post. Rather then buying more Javelins to replace thise sent to Ukraine, I would place orders for the Spike-LR2, from the Europeans production line and join Germany and Poland as a user. It is applicable to vehicle mounting, where any platform that could mount say a Milan c...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
The AT/Overwatch Platoon/Company needs a weapon system with good range, ideally a man in the loop option, all weather capability and be able to take out peer level MBTs with a single munition. That, as far as I am concerned it the requirement and any system that meets this is fine by me. The key thi...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
With the numbers ordered and the roles it is intended t use it in, the Boer is going to bome the most important platform used by the British Army. Other platforms such as Challenger 3 and whatever replacs the AS-90 will amalgamate the Boxer by beng inducted into formations build around the five Boxe...

A mixed fleet of both tracked and wheeled would meet the various needs of the British Army. Ideally using a common gun with different Chassis.

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
The Boxers, at least some of them will end up being up gunned at some point. Adding Javelin could be the first step, but other nations have realised that a larger weapon than a .50 cal is needed for operations in peer or near peer conflicts. Funding is going to be the biggest hurdel though buying up...

Re: Current & Future Amphibious Capability - General Discussion
60 is probably enough given the restructuring of how the RM will operate, with only one Commando allocated to Arctic warfare at any one time. What will be interesting is seeing what new vehicles could be purchased for the RM deployed as part of the Littoral Groups.

Re: Section Infantry Weapons
Given Sig Sauer went to great lengths to make the controls of the M5 similar to the M4 means the same argument applies to this rifle as well in my opinion.
