Very likely ! However, if the pool of ‘clubbers is widened still further, then EVEN MORE “clubs” are almost certain to be required.

Well …………………. ! The Japanese, South Koreans, Australians, Singaporeans, Indians and New Zealanders (in addition to the U.S.A.) seem to think that we are RELEVANT.
Or perhaps you are making a (rather poor) case for US Isolationism (on the back of your proposition).

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Hardly any impact actually in terms of the number of SSNs that can be fielded in a particular location on a permanent basis. This is firstly, because the base number of SSN is so low and secondly the need for SSNs to be available for a number of taskings is so varied geographically and by mission fu...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
If you need to build additional Warships, then it is without doubt that they will need to be crewed and maintained as well. If we have Warships in the current Fleet that cannot be crewed or maintained, that is a scandalous situation and shows (once again) that the 2010 SDR did reduce Naval personnel...

Re: General UK Defence Discussion
The pre-requisite of being able “to protect the UK by being ready to fight and win wars on land.” is, of course, by being ready to fight and win wars at sea and in the air (and at the same time) as well ! A Defence budget that is adequate to meet the threat rather than convenience, is what is now re...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion
Another 1-2 SSNs ? Certainly, but that means “Deployed”, so, if “another 1” in actual fact that would require 3 more, and if “another 2”, then up to 6 more would be required ! That is how undersized the SSN force is. We know what the obstacles to additional Warship acquisition are (and SSN in partic...

Perhaps he would be happier still, if we did nothing to prevent the outbreak of renewed strife in N. Ireland ! The EU officials liked to crow about how their main aim with the NI Protocol was to protect “The Good Friday Agreement”. however, with the Protocol manifestly failing in that regard, they n...

Exactly …. (HMG needing to demonstrate Medium and Long term commitment to the expansion of the RN). Regarding your comment re: Far East River B2s ……. Enough crew for 3 x Vessels, but only 2 (actual) Vessels. A third Vessel, would have added to our capabilities. Let me re-make the point in its most b...

SW1 If you consider that the 737 going out of production is of such great importance, then perhaps you would be kind enough to comment on when the 707 was last produced viz-a-viz the introduction of the E3. You may also care to comment on how your implied preference for a newer design than the 737 i...

Re: National Flagship for Britain
A third “Flagship for the Nation” (QEC) would be far more useful than 13 x Floating Gin Palaces at £250M a pop, even if (at a lower cost) ……… she was “FItted for, but not With” just about everything feasible.

I am certain that a QEC with the “Number 10” would be! Also, there are not many “yachts” that will have cost £3.25B!

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
Crewing is bviously a “Given”, but HMG need to demonstrate a medium and long term commitment to the expansion of th RN, before both retention issues and difficulties in recruitment issues ease. It is HMG cuts to defence that have driven (and are still driving) these difficulties. Aficionados might s...

Re: National Flagship for Britain
If they really want a “National Flagship” then I can think of one that I would support …………. A third QEC. How about HMS Churchill (R 10) . The Hangar Deck would be more than adequate for any size Party (err I meant to say Diplomatic or Trade Reception). Dual use would justify spend under the Defence...

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
Well that is what will almost certainly happen, if we have to wait for the Dreadnoughts to be almost completed before SSNR can get underway! UNLESS:- a) Design and Development work can be (and are) carried out in tandem with Dreadnought. b) The Timescales for SSNR build can be (and are) dramatically...
