I worked on the Sentinel whilst working for Raytheon in Chester, i did all the wiring in the radar fairing (along with working on the racks and consoles) on 4 of the 5 aircraft before i left to go work on the A380

Agree that a new design just for 5 ships seems counter productive. If it truly is going to be something smaller and not just a reconfigured GCS, I'd say it's an investment in designing a frigate that's more marketable to smaller foreign navies than a large frigate like Type 26 is. Great idea design...

24 F-35 for the QE class by 2023 doesn't seem like they are speeding purchasing to me, wasn't the goal to have some available by 2020 :| Same here, just sounds like clever words to grab headlines. basically all we will have until 2023 are 2 huge steel lillypads bobbing in the water and wasting year...

During my time at RAF valley as a JT with 19 sqn, i remember seeing 3 RM pilots going through fast jet training, that was it the late 90's.
