Re: Australian Defence Force
I am lead to believe this version of the Tomahawk cannot be fired from torpedo tubes and is not the UGM -109 https://www.australiandefence.com.au/news/us-approves-tomahawk-missile-sale-to-australia That’s right but that’s not to say they cannot change the order midstream The first boat to go under ...

Re: Australian Defence Force
But that is still a lot of Tomahawks for only three destroyers ,and if you are not going to have some submarines to fire them for several years by which time they are not the most advanced block or even type? Eventually it's not just going to be three, Hunters will also have the capability. And unl...

Re: Australian Defence Force
I understand this type of Tomahawk can only be fired from surface ships like the Hobart class and are not the variant that can be fired from submarines unfortunately . It could be interesting that under the AUKUS deal Virginia class submarines would be sold to the R.A.N in the 2030,s ( from two to ...

Wow no wonder the PM does not want debate on the Windsor agreement https://www.briefingsforbritain.co.uk/the-windsor-framework-a-legal-and-democratic-sting/ In addition, it has agreed to grant new rights under EU law for the EU to be consulted on UK goods and tax legislation to monitor competition r...

Re: Scotland (Political Thread)
I found this quote from Kate Forbes very interesting So having access to that huge single market, but also having sort of streamlined and accessible relationships or trading relationships with the rest of the UK. Does she not realise that the UK is still the official sovereign government of NI. So i...

Beat me... Was just gonna post this. https://twitter.com/NavyLookout/status/1637019927038001154?s=20 Can't see why the Navy has to pay for it not being built correctly? Thread name changed from SSN(R) to SSN-AUKUS. And keep it RN related news please. Australia has it's own thread. This is a three nation project. Cant see your suggestion of UK only working to be honest. Yeah agree if only UK news then no need to change the header. Its no longer UK centric its more ...

There will be dedicated East and West submarine bases. Garden Island Western Australia will be the first, but there are plans to develop better facilities in the East. At present, they use Sydney Harbour facilities. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-03-12/port-kembla-firms-as-site-for-new-submarine-...

My bet is.....Astute with S9G S9G shipped to UK for back half of submarine build front half built in SA. now would they ship the back half to AU or the front to UK for a total of 3 boats then SSN(R) built in AU from boat 4. UK doesn't need reactors and exporting them from the states is one of the m...

Interesting take on the Windsor agreement. Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
If that is the case then that basically rules out Astute for the RAN. It’s my understanding that RR will not be building PWR2 concentrating on PWR3 unless they redesign for S9G which the US boats havea smaller beam than Astute boats. If RR still have the production capacity to make further PWR2 rea...

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
Could they do a pwr3 astute as an interim? My understanding is that PWR3 is too big for Astutes beam. Thus I am presuming that is not possible without redesign; and in which case you might as well be looking at an SSNR anyway. So then it would presumably depend on how much the SSNR will be based on...

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)
Could they do a pwr3 astute as an interim? The redesign of the boat to take PWR3 would be so extensive and effectively end up being SSNR. It's best we double down on SSNR's digital design and hopefully tap some Australian $ too, to get things moving. By all accounts the Dreadnought programme is pro...

Define the subtlety lack in Ceafar , this was believed tailored for R.A.N needs , you assert that the Hunter class may not be as capable in ASW operations as a type 26 can you provide details on this please? No I think I said the Hobarts are less capable than T26 at ASW. Australia needs a proper AS...

This may have been covered previously but I understand the reactors of the Astute class have a twenty five year life and cannot be refueled and the reactor types of this submarine are no longer in production ,The first boat of its class will reach end of service life in 2035 .My question is being a...
