Re: The war in Ukraine
Reported US DOD buying some of the 60 ex-Dutch Gepards from Jordan for Ukraine through an intermediary, how many of the 60 involved under the contract not mentioned. The Gepard has been reported to have been very effective in Ukraine (the Dutch version uses different radars to the German version). ...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
Is the kf 21 a more advanced fighter than the typhoon offering to Poland, more stealthy I'm guessing so able to survive better in the Russian environment? Or is it cheaper than typhoon?,I'm sure someone above my pay grade will tell me

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I'm not going to defend France on their way of doing things , definitely not but french intransigence definitely yes but the at the back of it the french also know they could just go it alone and build the future fighter themselves and probably be a great sales success again after alot of dicking ab...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Is the mail going To go down the carriers are useless and a drip ,drip slow campaign to sell one ,as said by the labour oppsition leader about not sure tilt to Asia, could be lining up to sell one ,or giving anough bad press to pubic ,that no dissent when do ,that's my take on this ,but the navy and...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I've got an idea for 6th gen vertical tail / tailless designs ,both have merits for different flight characteristics stealth tradeoffs ,how about having a twin tails that lay flat for stealth in tail shaped recessed areas on top of main wings but lift up say 30degrees for max manoeuvrability ,so bes...

Just wish it had English translation lol,but hey looks good but still a 5th gen looking design like the Turkish/ south Korean ,and FCAS 6th design etc to my unknowledgeable eyes lol, suppose it's down too what's onboard tech GCAP that's making it 6th gen ? ,Think I've got in my brain the 6th gen des...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Or it may be that the French don’t really want or need an F22 class platform. They’re not a frontline air defence state, they’re not an island (or quasi Island like Italy ). Mirage 2000 wasn’t an F15 class platform. Mirage 3 was alot smaller than an F4. IMHO the programs are looking nicely compleme...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
If I can make a observation,it does kind of looking very much like the French FCAS ,or is that just me ? Also the latest American 6th and Chinese 6th gen renderings are showing a aircraft without tails, should/ could we be doing the same ,no expert just asking the question,?merits in the different d...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I'd say the french / Germans can produce tech every bit as good as British/ Italian companies I'd have thought, heck alot of the euro companies are intermingled with subsidiaries in each others countries, thinking french Thales in UK ,or Italian Leonardo in UK etc ,you get my drift ,so I'd say on syst...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
I suspect it will be pretty close to GCAP in reality performance wise .. Depends on what performance you are talking about. Aerodynamic, maybe yes. Stealth, sensor, sensor fusion, network enabling, definitely no. Would have thought sensor, sensor fusion, network enabling, etc etc ,even stealth to som...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
The only thing is with GCAP in future,I'm sure the Americans will try to exert pressure on GCAP partners in other ways to curtail sale's to countries that the US doesn't like ,so could limit GCAP sales ,ie if you sell GCAP to this country we will not supply you with parts for other programs like F35...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Agree, it will be a Rafale XL with a stealthy looking body and sexy marketing and they’ll sell boatloads to anyone who doesn’t want to be 100% aligned to the US. Will it be as good as GCAP? No. Will the French care? Doubt it. Like you said in some ways France would be better off going it alone I'm ...

Before the t-34 we have the t-55 coming of course this may be a way to use up the Ukrainian anti tank weapons and protect the t-80,s etc. https://english.nv.ua/nation/mothballed-t-54-tanks-spotted-being-transferred-in-russia-war-news-50312497.html Yes I thought maybe just maybe Russia is using old ...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
Interesting one for historians Personally I think if there were no Brexit we’d be looking at a maybe 20% share in FCAS, maybe even alignment of SSNs with France ie adopting LEU. I don’t think 5 eyes would last long term given the EUs defence ambitions. EU has nothing to do with 5-eyes .... so its f...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)
We need the current government to sign up to some Gordon Brown style Carrier contracts to be sure of that.... I hope they do..... The looming UK general election must be a slight concern to the Japanese government, in this critical moment when the embryonic corporate structure of Tempest is being f...

Yes I think there's been a lot of British submarine tech found its way over to the US through the years which they have adopted ,think the Americans were impressed with British sensor tech a few years back , when the reports they were blown away buy how far astute could keep Virginia class at bay on...

does that mean that UK would be building all the back end of the submarines then shipping back end to Australia , which I wouldn't think a safe procedure incase of accident transporting Welll - the UK operates four out of the 13 nuclear transport ships available worldwide - we have some expertise a...

Lol,20 UK boats ,they don't half tell whoppers lol, lucky if Australia actually sticks with program and doesn't just stick with Virginia class and updates, also UK more likely to build only 6 replacements going of track records, with proviso that new class is twice as powerful garbage line ,now out of ...
