Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
If PLWS is eventually deployed to relieve the Eisenhower after Steadfast Defender 24 I assume she'll be refitted with her Phalanx and maybe even finally get the 3 x 30mm mounts installed?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Was wondering if the modifications were new radios for the US trip. I believe the US had some secure comms added to the QE for its flight testing and deployment. I remember visiting the ship and seeing a compartment with a US flag on the door, nipper said that's one of the places ordinary AB's like...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
QE is bows north on Victory Jetty and has an interesting looking white tent covering the entire starboard-aft quarter sponson, the one that usually doesn't have a Phalanx CIWS mount on it. Maybe they're just doing maintenance and painting. Or not? Hmm. QE Victory Jetty 28July2023.jpg Wasn't that sp...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Does anyone know when the next scheduled deployment of a QNLZ class with foreign F35Bs is going to be? I thought the global CSGs were going to be every 2 years, and until we can muster more than eight F-35 for a TAG I hope the USN will help plug the gap. I assume PoW was slotted for that deployment...

Re: Multi-Role Ocean Surveillance Ships
If Ben Wallace is saying he wants it delivered early next year hull 1 will obviously be an off the shelf buy. I read somewhere that it would manned by RFA, not so sure about that..

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Any news on how many F-35s will be embarking for the deployment? A different site says she wont be embarking any from Marham but will pick up 17 Squadrons, still based in the states, and maybe some USMC as well... We'll see I guess. Shame 617 isn't getting more sea time but then I guess Westlant 22...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
That article regarding PTB's is odd as I have seen them on PWLS and nipper was on one when transferring off for his course. I guess they've been shared between the 2 QE class up to now. The PTB's in general are odd. The original 4 PTB's were from a design by Alnmaritec and appear to be successful. ...

On that pic of Queen Elizabeths hanger what that to the left of the closest Lightening? Portable chiller/fridge or something, looks like there is one further aft as well. Does that imply there is something wrong with her fridges/air con or whatever?

Is Exercise Crimson Ocean purely a Carrier and F-35 exercise or is the whole CSG concept being exercised ie QNLZ, F-35, T45, Tide and Fort, and maybe a trials Crowsnest Merlin?

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
While that may be true for the DD/FF and submarine fleets QNLZ & POW don't possess any onboard EW equipment and must rely on their escorts or aircraft I was under the impression most RN platforms already had quite a good passive detection capability. What we could use is a low probability of Int...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
My experience working particularly with the USN in joint facilities is that they always have their own SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility) for dealing with US Eyes signal traffic mainly. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they don't have one on QNLZ and POW. Cant imagine what could be...

Maybe a Photex in the channel when QNLZ returns from Westlant19, overflown by a flypast of 617Sqn F-35
More likely I would have thought they would both be along in Portsmouth for the Christmas, New Year period..
