Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]

So Dragon started PIP well after Daring, and no real News on Daring progress for over a year?

Re: Astute Class Attack Submarine (SSN) (RN)

Together with refits and protecting the Nuclear deterrent, this signals the very limited availability to deploy on CSG. I think we need 10 SSN minimum.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I can't find any images of PoW with Phalanx? Here is a picture. The Phalanx is just above the Spansh flag. PWLS had grey R2D2 parts to the phalanx whereas QE has white. https://ukdj.imgix.net/2022/06/princeofwales.jpg Yep well done. As soon as I posted that, I remembered previously commenting on he...

Re: Type 45 Destroyer (Daring Class) (RN) [News Only]

It started in July 2023. How long does it usually take? Whats HMS Daring doing these day? Exactly what I was wondering, I can't see any News about her since last April. News of Dragon returning to the Fleet this year, but Daring seems to have been in refit forever. She hasn't had CAMM fitted yet ei...

Zooming Into the open Shed door reveals a very large part of Belfast. Are we sure she will be joined together in the new build Hall? I know what the press releases say, but she looks likely to be ready to be joined up before the build hall is finished.

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)

I would up arm the B2, with a suitable change in their classification. But only if the commitment was to replace them in the future with Frigates. In tern build another 5 OPV's to replace the three B1s. A suitable path to 24 Escorts Eventually.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

I agree, if an Emergency required F35 to land and then take off in VTOL mode, on an unprotected deck, I'm sure a temporary solution has already been issued. If routine landings were planned, a deck would be permanently protected.
And that is a guess.

I thought the Superstructure Breaks in T23 were in response to how fire spread through Aluminium Superstructure. In effect fire Breaks. These were the First class designed post Falklands, and included Lessons learnt, Including the retention of Main Gun.

The original TSR aircraft.
If you haven't already read it, grab yourself a copy of 'Flying to the Limit' by Roland Beaumont.

Soft 'kill' doesn't kill it. So while it's useful for a Singleton unit to deflect a Missile, it's not very helpful if your in a Fleet situation. Ask Atlantic Conveyor. Deflect if you can't kill, but you might piss your neighbour off.

I believe this is the UK Defence Forum?? They may be T26 derived, but these are Australian ships.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

Our F35 pilots are starved of actual Carrier flying hours. We could and should put 20 jets on her. We're stuck in an endless Training rotation due to little Carrier experience.

To put that into perspective, you could be 20 miles off the UK coast, and a full lap of the UK would have every sq inch of the Country in range. Scary.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

That's a Great Photo. For those who have not seen a QE Class Carrier yet, just look at the Three storey building next to QE in the foreground, it really gives a sense of scale, as the size of the ships is masked by their good proportions.

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

As much as I loved the old Leander's, modern avionics and systems are far more compact and lighter. Therefore for a given displacement I would expect far more bang per tonne than a Leander could ever deliver. The only reason T31 is a little short on bite, is Price, not displacement.

No more F35 Thanks. We need to turn the tide and Fully Commit to this programme. Are we not Forgetting RnD budget from Partners. It's not all coming from us. This is a real Crossroads moment. But contracts need sorting before the next election.
