Re: Ships worth saving
HMS Rodney for me. An odd looking battleship which used her 16" guns to batter the Bismarck.

Re: Royal Air Force fantasy fleet builder
Not enough offensive counter air here, where's the SEAD, CAS. Clear requirement is for some low cost but high performance platforms. The Hawk is not one of these and any generation of MANPAD would render them useless. Some F18s, A10s would do, even extend the life of the GR4s, if it's good enough fo...

Re: Royal Air Force fantasy fleet builder
I'm going to plump for some A-10s. Without harrier and GR 4 we have a gap in CAS. F35 is going to be few in number for CAS and too expensive. I would go for 2-3 Squadrons of them. I'd keep tranche 1s for air defence for UK and Falklands, and I'd want a platform and capability for anti ship, it's a d...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
I'd be interested to understand the anti ship capabilities that the carriers will be projecting. As things stand there is a huge gap in our ability to sink anything bigger than a corvette.

Re: river I/I.5 and II patrol vessels
With just a 30mm peashooter these OPVs are limited in their use. A bit more imagination could have featured some harpoon and a slightly bigger gun, maybe a maritime version of starstreak. Without more weaponary if these vessels come up against anything bigger than a skiff then they could be in troub...

Re: Future UK Maritime Patrol Options
Any MARPAT needs to allow for anti ship capability as this is a major gap.

Re: SDSR 2015
The first 4 gaps in capability need to be filled asap;
1. RAF needs anti-ship capability.
2. RAF needs MARPAT.
3.RN needs a min of 13 Type 26s.
4. RAF needs 2 more squadrons of GR4s. 3 is derisory.
5. RAF should buy some A10s.

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion
Invincible fired it's sea dart as a desperate response, whilst the Atlantic Conveyor took a hit that was meant for the carriers. The RN lacks the vessels to provide guaranteed defence, whilst the Flaklands showed that capital ships need levels of self defence. 3 x phalanx will not be enough against ...

The carriers and escorts were in mortal danger in the Falklands without point missile defence. CIWS Is too last chance saloon!
Why are we the only nation whose carriers have no credible SAM capability?

No Seawolf or Ceptor, repeating mistakes of Falklands. No other carrier is left so defenceless.
