Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

Looks like we can expect a delivery of 3 x F-35B to Marham in the coming month or 2...

BK-28, 29 and 30 are all flying now. BK-30 had its maiden flight on the 12/09/22.

This will mean RAF Marham will have 26 x F-35B on hand.

Re: M270 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

I admire the effort we will be going to in seeking units. One of the things that will happen as a result of Ukraine is I suspect that vehicle and other kit disposals will be drastically cut back. Withams and L Jacksons Ltd. may find themselves very short of stock in the future...MoD will be hoardin...

Re: M270 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

Some great news.... UK M270 fleet to be increased by between 50-100%. These will be upgraded UK M270 and refurbished launchers from other nations (perhaps Germany or Norway). Original buy of M270 was 67 during the late Cold War. Some of these were turned into recovery/repair vehicles. https://twitte...

Re: M777 Portee DVD 2016

Didn't the Australian Army have barrels or both the L118 and L119? The idea being they would use the L119 barrels for training with the cheaper US ammunition but use teh L118 barrels for actual operations with their higher performance and of course bespoke ammunition. That was the plan originally b...

Re: M777 Portee DVD 2016

Apologies for the slip. I forgot that we supplied them from Kiwi stocks, not UK, presumably to maintain compatibility with US munitions. Even more interesting, if they are even shorter ranged. There is a lot of talk on here about how the L118 is obsolescent because it's too short-ranged, yet the Uk...

Re: M777 Portee DVD 2016

Hopefully we will get some feedback from the Ukrainians as to how effective the L118 is "in the wild", as we have donated a reasonable number to them and I'm sure they are putting them to good use. L119's not L118's. To be honest L118 and L119 have seen so much action over the years I sus...

Re: Lynx/Super Lynx Helicopters (RN & AAC)

Definitely a huge missed opportunity Yes and No. WG.30 was too much helicopter for the Lynx engine and running gear. It also lacked investment and testing, so much so that the limited number of WG.30 sold in the civilian market got a bad reputation. Westland didn't help themselves with a truly awfu...

Re: MBDA (UK)

If the MoD's excuse was cost of integration (can't remember if it was or not), then that doesn't hold water anymore surely... Brimstone for the win  £50m was the amount quoted...for a weapon with double the range that clearly dramatically increases the platforms survivability. Which to be ...

Re: MBDA (UK)

Poland has selected Brimstone as the armament for their Tank Destroyer vehicles... Think the UK may end up as the third ground user of Brimstone in due course (although there is a very real chance that other countries will get there ahead of the BGOAA requirement...wonder if the AH-64E integration ...

Not sure I quite get Gareth's surprise here, its been well known for an age that full operational capability of 2 squadrons will not arrive until 2025 based on deliveries alone. And as I've said before if you count full operational capability as having more than 3 weapons available, 2 of which are A...

Re: F-35B Lightning (RAF & RN)

I’m not sure if I’ve missed an announcement or if it’s pure speculation but it in Septembers edition of Warship IFR they are reporting that of the 74 a/c, 15 would be in maintenance at any time with 59 available for four operational squadrons. They've got one bit wrong straight away... There are 73...

Looks like CAMM is getting another big order for at least 700 missiles and more launch vehicles under the Polish Pilica programme. This is seperate to the already announced NAREW programme that will adopt CAMM and CAMM-ER into Polish service. The Pilica system will provide close in protection for th...

Indonesia has added Martlet to its LML and RapidRanger systems.., looks like they got them at least 6 months ago.

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

I'm not so pessimistic on Sweden dropping out of the Tempest programme. They can't drop out of something they've never signed up to. They're not in Tempest. UK and Italy are, with Japan on the way. Sweden/Saab are in the wider UK FCAS programme that is looking at technology and systems for future m...
