Re: Type 83 Destroyer (RN) [News Only]
Possible BAE Type 83 concept image Thats looks like a £2.5bn cruiser. If RN want something like that they will need to spread the cost with other nations or 6 will become 3 when development costs reduce hull numbers. Is this really the best direction of travel for RN? Would 12x T26 AAW not be bette...

Re: MBDA Storm Shadow Missile (RAF)
As others have pointed out, integrating storm shadow on the SU24 in a matter of months does make a mockery out of the decision not to integrate storm shadow onto F35. I suspect the biggest delay is updating the software to be able to fly the aircraft with 1 cruise missile under each wing and get it...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
Maybe a redesign to use the lightweight PULS launcher? Why? I'm not sure of the reason for peoples fascination with PULS. It's got some sales with countries who have divested themselves of MLRS in the past because they can get a place on the production line relatively quickly, not for any technical...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments
Infantry should be NLAW , Javelin , SP 120mm mortar and Brimstone Overwatch allowing for 1km to 40km range Brimstone 3 from ground launch will get you out to 25km....personally I'd retain 81mm Mortar as the volume of fire it can deliver is fantastic. 120mm mortar is nice....but not if it displaces ...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)
I don't think that Typhoon has any real prospects in Poland. If Poland needs an 'emergency' purchase of fighters, I am sure it has Norway and Netherlands' phone number. I think that both those countries could supply retiring F-16 very quickly (if they are not earmarked for Ukraine). Norway's F-16 h...

Re: New Zealand Defence Force
You are correct the OPV can not handle the MH-60Rs they can barely handle the SeaSprites. So I guess the question is how much does the RNZN value the OPV's helo capability? Is it something that they're happy to meet with a basic AW109 style capability, or do they require the greater capability from...

Re: New Zealand Defence Force
Yes, but I don't think the NZ OPV's can handle it. We've got used to being a little spoiled in the UK when the RN decided to make all flight decks Merlin capable 30 years ago...a really sound decision.

Is it the height though?donald_of_tokyo wrote: ↑26 May 2023, 14:23 Wildcat cannot fold their tail, is 13.5 long in hanger. Much longer than Lynx.
SH-60R, with folded tail, is 12.5m long.
NH-90, with folded tail, is 13.6m long.

Re: New Zealand Defence Force
The NH-90 can land on the ANZAC's deck but not fit in the Hanger... as for the OPV to big for the Deck let alone weight... The Sea Sprite only just fits... That sounds like only MH-60R or Wildcat would work for the Anzacs...and only Wildcat for the OPV's....at least in the dedicated naval helicopte...

I'm fine as long as MoD isn't paying for it. I'm fine as long as no part of the Government isn't paying for it... H & W need to put the crack pipe down though....no way the Government will fund this now, not with an election 2 years away and all the unfunded payrises they've been doing about to...

Re: River Class (OPV) (RN)
I can understand the fascination as it seems to me that having a fairly low cost, accurate, 50 mile plus ranged missile that has commonality with the RAF and is capable against a wide range of target sets would be a very useful way of adding land attack punch. Brimstone does not have the range or t...

It's got to be very close, dimensions and weights are very similar. I know the ANZAC's have topweight issues but is it a helideck weight issue or hangarage clearances?SouthernOne wrote: ↑24 May 2023, 02:49 NZ's maritime helicopters are flown by their air force, and the NH90 is literally too big for most of their ships.

If the B2's are upgraded with a Giraffe 3D radar, 40mm and 4 x 12.7mm they will only need 1 or 2 more crew for there day to day duties and if we can get POD's running with CAMM and Spear they can be re-rolled quickly to support other tasks like RFA escorts or supporting the Gulf based Escort if POD...

Contrary to the video's claim, PoW has been in drydock only twice in it's short life; the first for it's assembly, the second for repairs to the propellor shafts. But a maintenance period in drydock was due about now and planned for anyway. It's like the whole taking parts off....something that alw...
