Re: General UK Defence Discussion

What is this madness, good news for a change, an actual regeneration of an ability to produce something in the UK. :wtf: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-government-and-defence-industry-stepping-up-support-for-ukraine the MOD agreed to regenerate the UK’s ability to produce forgings for gun ba...

I interviewed the head of the French Mine Warfare Flotilla on SLAM-F / MMCM, they will take delivery of the first operational system in coming days and achieve IOC in a year. I figured some here would be interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VLf3SxSrNQ Wonder if FM are ahead of us in SLAM-F ...

Re: Type 31 Frigate (Inspiration Class) [News Only]

There was inflation contingency in the original contract. Which was used up, hence the 100 mill. So its more. But, of course, the real rate of inflation turned out to be much higher than that catered for in the contingency. covid, general bad economy, then Lizz Truss... nobody should blame Babcock,...

As to other leading Western countries lasers you only have to look at the recent US Army field trials in the Mid-East of their four DE M-SHORAD 50 kW lasers, they did not go well. Wow, you got us there, one of the 2 examples in the dragonfire release about failures to avoid and what the US army did...

Re: Future Solid Support Ship

babcock selling off appledore just to get it back would be quite the joke. They didn't sell it off. They closed it down. I've no idea what's in the FSS contract. But the prime is Navantia and I suspect they'd argue that UK sub-contractors going under is none of their doing, and the UK Government ca...

Can BAES or Babcock buy H&W? Many problems in UK shipbuilding will be solved. If I were super cynical I'd say that's what the Treasury are angling for, hence the foot dragging BAE and Babcock have massive govt liaison and access. babcock selling off appledore just to get it back would be quite ...

Give them all to the RN. Fly Navy!! It would be nice to see another FAA F-35 squadron, 800 or 801 would be great. If UK decide to go with four frontline squadrons we might but I think they will not go further than three. But I don't mind RAF and FAA operating plane together, and UK is not the only ...

How many warships ordered under the conservatives in their 14 years in government are currently commissioned Royal Navy ships. We have the off shore patrol boats and?
bad statistic: design-contract-commission usually lasts longer than the governments.

Great pictures - thanks for posting. I wonder, if the T83 grows longer, the shed could be extended? A small personal obsession of mine. 170m shed, maybe get a 165m long ship built undercover. Otherwise probably need bolt on the bow at the end of build. Still, more spacious than Rosyth. Spacious in ...

My view in summary. Defence Review pointless.
