Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

WORLD DEFENSE SHOW 2024 — While the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is “very keen” on joining the UK-Italy-Japan Global Combat Air Program (GCAP), localization remains a priority for any deal to be sealed, a key Saudi industrial official tells Breaking Defense. “I think [joining] the program [GCAP] is impo...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

Would UK supply the same radar to KSA as for the RAF? Is a wide screen available?

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

I read elsewhere that 12 of the Qatari order for 24 were delivered October 2022 - October 2023. Presumably work on frame 24 has already started. If a KSA order were given this year, when could the first aircraft be delivered after a break in assembly? On the Turkish front, while US senator oppositio...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

Did Egypt jusrt express an interest in Typhoon or are there signs it wants to buy some? I do not think that Poland would choose Typhoon over KF-21 if it is happy dealing with ROK/KAI. Last thing I heard was that Poland would like to buy out Indonesia's stake in the programme. Turkey? After putting t...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

I am not optimistic about KSA placing a follow on order unless price is no barrier. Same thing for another RAF order. Why pay for 4G Typhoon when 5G F-35 is cheaper, especially if F-35A. The peace dividend may be a thing of the past for the UK but that does not mean it is OK to spend extra funding f...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

How many more Typhoons are still to be delivered from the UK assembly line? Will there be a break if a KSA order is placed late this year?

Not this government though, hasn't they just said that they want to reduce tax and reduce cash to departments,so can't see a further order of typhoons for RAF tbh https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-detail/france-orders-additional-rafale-combat-aircraft So a Rafale F4 costs 5,000 million euros ...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

BBC is reporting strikes against Yemen. I think that both UK carriers are in the UK, so any UK air strikes would be using Typhoon. Would that be from Cyprus or would UK Typhoons be based somewhere in the Gulf? Perhaps UK is only using ships/submarines - the news so far is not clear.

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

It will be interesting to see the size of the order. A quick google shows the Saudis currently operating 80 F15C/Ds with an average age of 37 years. It could be substantial, especially given the threat situation. The earliest Tempest could enter service with KSA air force would be near 2040 (my gue...

Germany allows the sale of Typhoons to KSA. FINALLY https://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/asien/deutschland-eurofighter-saudi-arabien-100.html Let's hope it's not too late and the French haven't got their foot in the door. Good for KSA to have Dassault in the frame. If an airline has a fleet of A320's ...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

Will the RAF be basing more Typhoons in The Falklands if Argentina opts for F-16? Also offered are the Indian Tejas (a non-starter, I think, as all UK parts would need to replaced) and the Chinese/Pakistani JF-17 (also with the problem of an MB ejection seat which would need to be swapped for a Chin...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

MQ28 Ghost Bat? Not that I'd support that, we really need to have sovereign capability, but you could see the political attraction, and the Boeing lobby. I imagine the GCAP programme will be stretched financially to develop the fighter. I don't see the point of compromising the fighter by diverting...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Sweden has some old Hercs. Brazil has some old AMX. Would it be surprising if Sweden ordered some C-390 and Brazil ordered more Gripen E?

Australia will have some old F/A-18 to replace around 2035. What does Australia make that the GCAP partners could possibly need around 2035?

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

Sounds very vague. Simple question - who does the revenue go to in first instance? IMHO they need an integrated Industrial JV as in New Airbus Sounds vague to me, too. It should be less vague after a treaty is signed and its contents made public. I imagine that the funding breakdown between the par...

He stressed that the changes in internationa...

Re: Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers - News and Discussion

How fast could UK get a carrier group to the waters off Guyana? I have heard that Venezuelan forces are building on the border with Guyana, a member of the Commonwealth. There is to be a vote on Sunday in Venezuela concerning a longstanding border dispute with Guyana.
