+ whether they will be constructed at roysth. Also how close they will be to Visby 2.0, Pohjanmaa-class, e.c.t. or any of the ~100m ship designs in that range that both saab and babcock have had in recent years. The Luleå class will 100% not be constructed at Rosyth. The hull will probably be built...

That picture is fascinating since it seems like it shows EXLS, I strongly suspected that the regular mushrooms would be fitted behind the bridge where Umkhonto was originally planned.

Re: MBDA (UK)

Didn't we already know CAMM was going on the Visby's? No official SAM is formally yet to be chosen for Visby MLU but FMV has shown CAMM + EXLS in a PowerPoint about Visby MLU. But being frank the odds are extremely high that it will be CAMM since Visby can't fit Mk41+ESSM without drastically changi...

Re: Eurofighter Typhoon (RAF)

Tornado ECR was modernized and upgraded less than a decade ago and provides the starting point for the EF development. It's worth the cost even if only 20 ECR are produced as this will go on to serve as the foundation for developing FCAS EW capabilities as well. Well if the EK EW system will be use...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

Also curious what future the Refix Complex has, as even a Type 31 will be pushing it in beam. Though in length they're not far off a Batch 3 Type 22. Since T26 has been confirmed to be based in Devonport I thought T31 would be based and maintained in Portsmouth. I did find a quote from Kevin Russel...

Re: Current & Future Escorts - General Discussion

This is a bit of a topic but does anyone know what docks in Devonport can fit a T26? From what I understand only 8 dock will be large enough since 10 dock will be refitted for submarine work and the Frigate Refit Complex is too small.

Re: Ground Based Air Defence

Why not mount CAMM on BvS10? It's the same design as the BvS410 which carries IRIS-T SL in the Eldenhet 98 configuration. CAMM is not much bigger than IRIS-T, so that would be a good option.

Not to downplay their capabilities, but does Babcock have the design capability/expertise to deliver a new 100m warship design? A pure Babcock design has never been on the table. What we are speculating about is a Saab and Babcock collaboration. Saab was the main design for the Visby class, togethe...

Re: Future UK Combat Aircraft (Project Tempest)

I think that was the role of Sweden, giving equal grounds as the FCAS to EU funds. So their lacking of partecipation even just nominally is bad. I'm still holding out hope for Swedish participation, especially since the Gvmt has announced a 28%!!! increase in defence spending for next year to 2.1% ...

Re: Type 32 General Purpose Frigate [News Only]

Are the Swedish looking at building say 7 new 100+ meter ships as part there commitment to NATO and say SNMG-1&2 4 Luleå corvettes/light frigates are in the early definition stages. They are expected to be considerably larger than Visby (73m) so around 100m seems appropriate. The suspicion from...

Tejas Mk1A AESA radar is inferior to Gripen C radar? Gripen E is in a much higher price bracket. Where did I state that? I'm talking about Gripen E, as Gripen C is not in production. You can't just cherry-pick the best current variant for HAL (Tejas MK1A) and the worst current variant for SAAB (Gri...

Does anyone know why the Type 26 carries only a VDS but not a linear towed array (excluding S2170)? Both the Constellation and the Chinese Type 054B will have both a VDS and a linear towed array.

A US-built FFG-62 would be around the same price as a UK-built T26. I think the most likely to least likely are as follows, 1: F127, 2: FFG-62, 3: T26: 4: ASWF, 5: F110, T31 & FDI.

Some Indians seem to believe they will be able to have an indigenous engine for the AMCA. It took China some 20-25 years to catch up to Russian power plants in terms of performance. Just look at WS-10, in the early 2000's it was a terrible engine both in terms of performance and reliability. Only no...
