Re: M270 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

If that's the case the opportunity to get 9 lightly used M270 could be there for the UK. Still that would mean UK would buy those launchers, not just getting them from Norway. They could easily buy US M270A0 and modernise it to M270A2 standard or directly buy completely new M270A2. Thing is there i...

Re: M270 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

Any change of more from Norway to replace them? The only reason why Norway gave UK 3 M270 is that they wanted to donate them to Ukraine, but as theirs were not modernised and so can't fire GMLRS, they sent them to UK while UK gave Ukraine three of their own. This time UK is directly donating theirs...

Re: M270 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

Seems like Britain will send three more M270 to Ukraine. This would mean that only 38 will left for the Army, including 3 old Norway MLRS.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

As for Boxer, anyone taking the direct fire version? For now no one. Testing of Boxer with Cockerill 105 mm turret were suppose to happen last year, and while some mobility trials are done, firing trials were delayed due COVID restriction. Not sure if they were done this year but I couldn't find an...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)

Just realised that wheeled Boxer is actually photoshoped by putting wheels on tracked Boxer hull. https://twitter.com/nicholadrummond/status/1551895844181377027?cxt=HHwWhoCwjYnDuIkrAAAA Still wonder how good such vehicle would be. Not sure if 105mm MGS would be better but 120mm gun at least should b...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

Seems like Poland is taking its defence quite seriously with intention to buy/produce 1000 K2 tanks and 690 (or 670, sources defer) K9PL platforms with is based on K9A2 to accompany 144 Krabs. So it would be fourth NATO nation to use K9, with some 750-800 units among them. Looks like they are also i...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

Would artillery be the exception? In the field they do operate as batteries, assigned to whoever as the situation dictates. Depending which regiment. 101st Regiment RA will now provide a formed battery each to 3rd Regiment RHA and 26th Regiment RA, having previously provided individual M270 detachm...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

I think you need to back and look again as it has 4 Armoured Cavalry 1 light Cavalry and 1 light Reserve Cavalry plus 2 Armoured and 1 Armoured reserve regts as things stand in FS The 3rd currently has 3 Armoured and 6 Cavalry regt's and I am saying we should move 1 of Reserve Cavalry regts from 1s...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

The 3rd currently has 3 Armoured and 6 Cavalry regt's and I am saying we should move 1 of Reserve Cavalry regts from 1st to 3rd to make it 7 No it does not. Currently it has 3 armoured, 3 heavy cavalry and 1 light cavalry. It also has two TA units, RWY and RY. But none of those two are intended to ...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

the way I would like to see it the 3rd division would be formed like so 1 x Deep strike BCT = 4 x Cavalry regts , 3 x SP gun Regts , 2 x MLRS 3 x Armoured BCT's = 1 x Armoured regt , 1 x Cavalry regt , 4 Infantry Ballalions (2 reg & 2 Reserve ) with Artillery , Engineer & Logistic support t...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

I would expect all six of these BCT's to be given a battery of MLRS this would allow a LMBCT to enter theatre with 27 brimstone launchers (each with 12 missiles = 324 ready rounds ) and 6 (wheeled ) 12 round 8x8 MLRS = 72 ready rounds Why would MLRS battery be attached to battalion/brigade level un...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

4 x MLRS regiments ( 3 x Reg & 1 reserve ) For Army it would be better to provide regular artillery regiment for 4th LBCT instead of creating another MLRS. If they want to increase number of MLRS, simplest way would be increasing number of systems in already existing batteries. Increase number ...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

I would say having regiments with a mix of M-270 & MAN 8x8 K239 would be a good thing And what would be a benefit of having two platforms. Both have same weapon system, provide same load and are similar in weight. So what is a point? Keep in mind that, like it someone or not, M270 will remain i...

Re: Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery future developments

Other nations like France often use 120mm Mortars for Brigade level artillery support with their 155mm Guns allocated at Divisional level. Which is not exactly true. Artillery regiments in French brigades are using both 155mm guns and 120mm mortars and some other weapons, like Mistrals missiles. Ha...

Re: RBSL Challenger 3 (Future) Main Battle Tank (British Army)

Well, we can argue about the merits, good and bad, of the C3 all day long but one area I'd argue that is unarguable, are the numbers. Very few people will argue with you there. But that is not a problem of tank itself but rather a reform plans and budget. If I am not wrong, the Army requested upgra...

Re: RBSL Challenger 3 (Future) Main Battle Tank (British Army)

Nothing is really new ... Armour is new, it is exclusively developing for CR3. As far as I am concerned it may look like a new(ish) platform but it is in reality just a major modernisation. And what is wrong with that? It will still be one of the most modern tanks in the World, once fully upgraded.

Re: M270 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

Yes you are right. I got muddled up as each Regiment has a wartime strength of eighteen launchers each. The two Regiments are at present one Regular and one Reserve and the Reserve Regiment only has twelve launchers in peacetime. I believe the current launchers are the4 M270B1 standard. With the De...

Re: M270 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS)

https://twitter.com/The_Lookout_N/status/1542086103590748162 Seems like reason for this is that Norway has M270A0 which, unlike British M270B1, can't fire GMLRS. And as whole British fleet will updated to M270A2 these 3 will be upgraded with them so that in the British Army will keep the same number...

If US Army can get GD to finally fix the vibration issue with this piece of shit vehicle, maybe MoD can finally get the vehicle that will not cause British Army soldiers to prematurely go deaf and suffer from death by vibration! I wouldn't hope to much. While it is based on ASCOD II, Griffin is not...
