Re: General UK Defence Discussion
So there are lot of talks about cuts to the British Army recently https://twitter.com/ForcesNews/status/1661748959264514048 Only thing is that it is not clear is this mean that earlier announced cuts will go forward or will there be further cuts. Because there are rumors about additional cuts, some ...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
I think that (almost) every tank with dozer blade could do the same. Those cones are not very big and they are only placed on the ground, not dig down.

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Looks like Boxer with NEMO could carry 60 rounds while with Ragnarok just 40.
Ammo capacity for Boxer with Ragnarok seems quite low, considering that smaller vehicle like M1064 is carrying 69 shells and even M1129 (Stryker) has 60 shells.

Re: The future form of the Army
Some of those sentences in the article are just baffling to me Senior figures in the MoD believe the war in Ukraine has exposed the vulnerability of tanks to shoulder-launched weapons such as Nlaws and Javelins, justifying the original decision in 2021 to upgrade only 148 Challenger 2s to Challenger...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
All of this is quite right but JC will have one or two 3030 turrets in hand and the Leopard 1 3105 ( part of the 3030 range) upgrade was just a turret , turret ring adaptor and power cable adaptor This is just a back up if Ajax falls down again and Warrior needs to carry on in the armoured Recce ro...

Re: Warrior Armoured Vehicles (British Army)
Next I agree that a turret upgrade is off the table in real terms however the turret upgrade was stopped before the war in Ukraine started also JC will have a 3030 turret ready to go so the cost would be sending them a hull and there time to work out if it can be done quick and cheap i.e the same a...

Re: FV4034 Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (British Army)
I was arguing for that a year ago. Massive production line in Poland - just put the turret on a K2 chassis It is little to late for that. Poland already got 15 K2 so far, and the rest out of some 180 will follow, and it signed a contract for local production of K2PL version which will be developed ...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
As you say within the 62 Recce / FSV vehicles some will be for the ATGW troop's. But as I have said in the past we could Javelin onto the RWS mounts and replace the ATGW troop with a Overwatch troop same amount of vehicles more ready fire missiles greater firepower in depth like so Sorry but I have...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
How can you take 9 vehicles out of 62 for role that they are not intended to do? Do you think the British Army ordered 62 Recce / FSV variants without reason?Tempest414 wrote: ↑14 Apr 2023, 12:26 Still 9 vehicles out of 62 Recce / FSV group plus they could order just the Overwatch module for these vehicles down the line

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Initial orders appears to have been placed for Archer 155mm SPGs which should replace the AS-90 which appears to havefound a new home in Ukraine. It is interim solution as UK is just buying Archers which Sweden ho;d in their storage. MFP will replace both AS-90 and Archer. 9 x Over watch from the 6...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
So it is safe to say that most if not all Ajax/ Ares will go to the 4 Armoured Cavalry units and as we know we have enough Boxer APC's for 2 x Mech battalions maybe 3 if we say 40 of the extra 100 were APC's So when we say we need 90 Boxers per Battalion we are somewhere between 85 and 130 ACP's sh...

the old CVR(T) cavalry units had 66 vehicles with 27 Scimitars with 3 to a troop , 3 troops in a sqn , 3 recce sqn's in a regt Recce squadron had 3 troops of Scimitar each with 4 vehicles and support troop with 4 Spartan APC and 12 dismounts. Also in Command & Support squadron, there were 3 gui...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
So at the moment out out some 1200 armoured vehicles ordered there is only 178 APC with 85 Boxer APC and 93 Ajax APC I really do not understand why are you counting Ares here. I am not sure how many Scimitars were in the recce regiment, but there were at least 22 of them. So for 4 recce (Ajax) regi...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
Boxer probably should replace FV432 for several roles in the Armoured Artillery units. I guess that is true. Also guess ambulance version of Boxer will replace Samaritan in the recce regiments considering that UK didn't ordered ambulance version of Ajax, possibly even in the armoured regiments too,...

Re: Boxer / Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV)
A few things here if Ajax gets into service we will not buy another tracked IFV with 93 APC's in the 590 Ajax's ordered adding say 150 more with RT60 fitted would be the quickest way go Those Ares are intended to replace Spartans in recce regiments, you can't just took them and move into infantry b...

Didn't one take out a T-72 in Ukraine recently? There was a rumor that first documented destruction of T-90M is done by Carl Gustaf. But this was debunked and actually Russian tank destroyed disabled T-90M to prevent capture. But it is possible that Carl Gustaf disable it. It is not impossible for ...

Does this applications outside of what NLAW delivers or why is the MOD purchasing two light anti tank missiles?
